REVEALED: Threatening chalk outside The Luxe was part of a class project

The student responsible came forward after it ended up on the news

Last night threatening chalk messages appeared on sidewalk outside of The Luxe on West Call. The message read as death threats mimicking the style of the Zodiac Killer from the 1970s.

Outside The Luxe apartment complex, students and residents were quick to notice the long messages and series of symbols. It wasn’t long until an uproar could be heard across campus.

However, since the message appeared students have come forward saying the message was for a class project. The project was related to a class that studied ancient writing styles and symbols.

FSUPD confirms those involved with the messages were to simply take pictures for their project and wash it away. However, in the process of the project it started to rain and the students walked away assuming the rain would take it away. Once they realized the messages were still visible and that they had caused extreme backlash, the students immediately stepped forward to address the situation.

Caroline McMullen, a freshman at Florida State, was by The Luxe after the rumors of the threatening chalk spread around campus. “I know it was a harmless class project but people have to be careful about what they put out there, you never know.”

No threat or harm has been indicated beyond the community concern.
