Why Georgia is the best State of them all

It is right about time you Eagles learn to appreciate this Southern State

For many, hitting that 18th birthday and moving away from home to college was the most enticing thought. For me, it never even crossed my mind because Georgia has forever been engraved in my head.

To all of your outsiders, sit down for one hell of a ride of Georgia. From southern hospitality to the busiest airport in the world… you name it, and we’ve got it.

Strangers are just friends we haven’t met yet

We take Southern hospitality very literally. You can sit down with your next-door neighbor or the stranger on the street and have one of the most rewarding conversations. Hello, sorry, how are you, and thank you dear are just some of the ways we acknowledge your presence and importance in our life.

We will gladly open the door for ten people without asking for anything in return. We are some of the softest people you will ever meet.

We will go out of our way to make you feel at home.

The weather is an emotional roller coaster

Whether it be planting, going to a barbecue, or going to a baseball game, Georgia has the perfect warmth.

Here in Georgia, you can wear flip flops in December or boots in March because you really don’t know what the weather is going to be until you stick your hand out in the morning. Mystery is always fun.

We always get warm weather earlier than most, so just give us a pair of old navy flip flops and a baseball hat and we will get along just fine.

Two words – Rivalry Weekend

It is after all a Southern State so football is must. Tailgates are the most looked forward to event of the week during the season.

Rivalry weekend will end up with most of the crowd in Athens or Atlanta. For those football lovers at a no football state, we can always rally at our partner Coca-Cola school every Thanksgiving, Georgia Tech…

That leads me to the next reason. While many a Georgia person is either a UGA or a Georgia Tech fan, we will gladly claim the bragging rights of being the home base for both teams.

We’re proud to be the home to Coca-Cola

Who doesn’t love soda? Better question, who doesn’t love Coca-Cola?

3.1% of the world drinks Coca-Cola products. Hell, Coca-Cola even funds our university. 96% of the world population recognizes the Coca-Cola logo anywhere.

Just take a day out and go take a tour of the building. Not to mention, all the free tastings you get to do. That’s always a plus.

We’re home to the country’s busiest airport

Flying in or flying out, it is always good to aim to get there early. We are the busiest airport in the world, so that is always a fun way to meet strangers. If you get there early, you best explore on the train from one Terminal T to the international terminal F.

With approximately 100 million passengers a year, we have been named the busiest airport in the world for 18th consecutive year. Minus the wait, it is always an adventure at the airport whether it be shopping at the Michael Kors store or getting coffee from Green Bean Shop.

Plus, we’re home to Delta.

Hosting the Masters definitely earns bragging rights

All golf lovers unite.

Every year, in the quiet city of Augusta, the Masters tournament is held. The Masters is the only majors event that is played in the same location every year. That’s definitely something to brag about.

Tiger Woods to Phil Mickelson, here is your chance to get starstruck and admire all of your favorite athletes from afar.

Our Colleges are among the best in the country

Georgia’s schools are some of the best ranked in the nation and even the world. Emory is one of the best private universities in the nation.

Emory University Goizaueta Business School’s popular Undergraduate BBA program has been ranked in the Top 10 for nine consecutive years and currently ranks #9 by Businessweek and #15 in U.S. News & World Report. Georgia Tech’s engineering program is the 6th ranked U.S. News & World Report.

Don’t even get me started on the food…

Here comes the best part, the food. Georgia is home to some of the best restaurant chains such as Chick-Fila. I have yet to find a person who doesn’t like deep fried chicken.. well, unless you’re vegetarian.  Sorry guys.

With warm weather comes barbeque Saturdays with random strangers. I can’t forget the sweet tea that accompanies every meal no matter if it is breakfast or dinner or late night snack.

A true southerner is empty without a glass of tea. You won’t ever get thirsty in a Georgian’s house.

The scenery is absolutely breathtaking

From rolling plains to never ending trees, Georgia is a beautiful wonderland. From the historic city of Savannah to the giant rock of Stone Mountain, nature is always a plus for Georgia.

Just take out your camera and go check out Tribble Mill Park or Callaway Gardens.

What’s better than having random photoshoots with good friends or just taking random walks in the prime months of the fall semester?

In Georgia, you’ll never have a boring weekend

Atlanta, Savannah, Helen… the list is endless. You just need a weekend to experience it. We have so many parks, museums, amusement centers, and other attractions that the possibilities for fun are endless!

There are also a host of things for families to do free of cost.

To sum it all up, we are flip flop wearin’, barbeque eatin’, sweet tea drinkin’ kinds of people.

So, next time a Georgian comes up to you, don’t be scared.

We are just doing our thing.
