The face of the Hunter Revolution: Kevin ‘Zod’ Zaw

His goal is to make your experience at Hunter something that you can be proud of

Kevin Zaw, or “Zod” as he is more affectionately known is the presidential candidate for The Hunter Revolution. You may also know him as the guy who dresses up as Spiderman during events. He was a Freshman Senator two years ago and is looking to use his experience to improve USG. Through the position of president he is looking to form a connection with the students of Hunter and help them as much as he can.

Zod is running for president to help students, and make a change at Hunter. As a senator he found himself redirecting people to other members of USG. Saying, “Often times we’re (USG) very reliant on other people, but I wanna make myself available and take those problems on individually”. He recognizes that you don’t need to be president to make a change at Hunter but he wants to use the position of president as a platform to reach out to students. As president he also wants to put less emphasis on USG, and more of an emphasis on promoting Hunter as a whole.

The Hunter Revolution, under Zod’s leadership hopes create a connection to the student body via club activity at Hunter. Zod’s platform emphasizes the importance of boosting clubs at Hunter and providing as much assistance to them as they can. After being in USG, he believed that it was the be all end all for impacting student life at Hunter, but after taking part in clubs and helping plan events he found that there was more to interacting with students and improving your experience as a student.

He went on to say, “In regards to clubs, I don’t want to take away from the way we do events here. I want to make every event we do better, and also I want to make them more diverse.” To make Hunters events diverse he wants to introduce new events on top the regular Thanksgiving dinner, the Halloween party, and Final Food Giveaway. While new events have their problems when they are first introduced Zod feelings that trying new things will help to get the student body excited and help start new traditions over time. Zod has done this in the past through a toga party that held and a mystery dinner he held as a member of The Olivetree Review, a literary publication service on campus. There were problems with the events since it was there first time being introduced but now with an understanding of these issues they can be fixed and improve them for the future.

During his time working as a senator he also noticed that when club members would come in to USG with problems, like finance issues, there would be some USG members that would know how to resolve those issues and others that wouldn’t. Zod would want every member to understand how to handle finance issues in relation to clubs like how to get a budget and how to co-sponsor. He also wants USG members to attend club meetings to understand how each unique club functions. This way they could relay that information during USG meetings helping them to understand how to better supply aid to the clubs when issues arise. This will make the relation between clubs and USG more fluid.

Zod hopes to increase the rough 10% of students that participate in elections and clubs right now, by making clubs and events more enticing. He also hopes to reach out to the students that don’t participate in events and clubs. His ideas for doing this is through more quick food giveaways for students going in and out of class, and maybe handing out school supplies at the USG office the same way they have tea and coffee available.

“The way i can clearly differentiate myself presidentially, is that I have experience in USG two years ago. Then right afterwards I was able to understand the student population and look back on my experience in USG and reevaluate… The mentality you have when you’re in USG is so different. Reevaluating my view of USG and understanding the student’s needs sets me apart from the other candidates.”

Zod hopes to form a lasting connection with the students of Hunter.
