I went to IC and asked what they think of Cornellians

Apparently we’re anal, fratty and pretentious

Yesterday I went to DTB (the colloquial name for the CTB near the commons) and the Ithaca College Campus in search of IC students.

No, I wasn’t looking to ask them about the nationally publicized protests or the historic vote of no confidence in their president.

I had a much more important question in mind. What do IC students think of Cornellians?

Mark, Communications

Describe Cornell in one word

“Geeky.”

How would you describe the typical Cornell student?

“Academically involved, thinks highly of themselves.”

Who would win in a fight – Ezra Cornell or [IC Founder] William Egbert?

“Who’s William Egbert?”

Reed, Employed in Admissions Office

Describe Cornell in one word

“Pretentious.”

How would you describe the typical Cornell student?

“Polos, khakis, boat shoes”

(Oops – I was wearing two of the three at the time).

What is your most memorable Cornell experience?

“I used to work in the hotel school”

Who would win in a fight – Ezra Cornell or William Egbert?

“That’s a tough one. They’re both old white guys, but I feel like Ezra would fight dirtier.”

They may be remembered as old white guys, but they were young white guys once too.

Who’s your favorite Cornell alum and why?

“My brother because he’s my brother”

Megan and Kelly, Occupational Therapy

How would you describe the typical Cornell student?

Megan: “Anal, studying on a Friday.”

Kelly: “Driven, fratty.”

What is your most memorable Cornell experience?

Megan: “Some stuff I did for Cru” (a Christian organization on campus)

Kelly: “Going to some frat.”

Who’s your favorite Cornell alum?

Megan: “My boyfriend” (smart girl).

Kelly: “Bill Nye.”

Who’s your favorite IC alum?

Megan: “I don’t know any.”

Kelly: “My old roommate.”

Alex and Julia, TV Production

How would you describe the typical Cornell student?

Alex: “Cocky, smart.”

Julia: “Intelligent, driven, studies on a Friday night.”

What is your most memorable Cornell experience?

Alex: “Going to my friend’s dorm, it was much nicer than mine.”

Julia: “I just remember walking across campus in IC clothes and feeling like I was being looked down on.”

(At this point I tried to explain that we look down on everyone including each other and that it was nothing personal).

Who would win in a fight, Ezra Cornell or William Egbert?

Alex: (after Googling them both) “Ezra looks bulkier.”

Julia: “Not Egbert. He founded a music school.”

Who is your favorite Cornell alum?

Alex: “Bob Clendenin from Cougar Town.”

Julia: “Ruth Bader Ginsburg”

So there you have it. We’re anal, fratty and pretentious. We also think highly of ourselves. What I’m wondering now is how we managed to convince them that we all study on Friday nights. I certainly don’t.
