CNN Money has just released its list of the ten most expensive colleges and Columbia University is officially the second most expensive college in the nation after Harvey Mudd. Columbia, the most costly Ivy League, has a exuberant annual cost of $68,405.

Life in the Big Apple is not cheap and Columbia is no exception at thousands of dollars more than the average private university. No wonder 52% of freshmen receive financial aid!

Columbia is followed by University of Chicago who requires a grandiose $67,584 to attend. However, 61% of students receive financial aid—9% more than students at Columbia. Our neighbor NYU placed seventh in CNN’s ranking and Dartmouth, ninth, was the only other Ivy League in the ranking. Nevertheless, only 46% of our freshmen Dartmouth friends received financial aid.

One often wonders where that $68,405 ends up going as dorms look decrepit and more and more full-time professors leaving graduate students to teach us Core Curriculum classes. After all that, our parents still get letters from the University asking for more money!
