Seattle is actually the music capital of the world
‘It’s like the city is conspiring to make everyone’s lives more musical’
If you’re from Seattle, music is part of your DNA. It’s what everyone does when it’s cloudy (which is everyday). Seattle is city that gave the world Jimi Hendrix, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Heart, Fleet Foxes, Alice in Chains, and Macklemore to name a few.
Here are the reasons that Seattle is actually the music lover’s capital of the world.
We have an actual ‘sound garden’ with sculptures that make music from wind
Even our sculptures are musical.
Bars without live music don’t exist (or well, they’re lame)
If you haven’t been to Tractor Tavern, you haven’t really lived.
Everyone has been to a local open mic
They’re in our bars and cafe’s across the city.
We have a major festival for every season: Lucky, Paradiso, Resolution and FreakNight
It’s so no one has to go more than a couple months without one. It just wouldn’t be right. Thanks USC.
Every corner has someone busking with a guitar in hand
It’s like the city is conspiring to make everyone’s lives more musical, even on their walk to work.
We are home to the most epic music museum, the EMP
The architecture was inspired by the Fender Stratocaster that Hendrix would destroy after each concert. You can see some of these smashed guitars then go upstairs and play one yourself in the interactive music rooms.
Every Seattlelite has more friends with a Sound Cloud than they can count on their fingers
Rainy weather means more time to dedicate to music.
Growing up in Seattle means you went to as many ‘all ages’ shows as your parents would allow
Thank god for The Vera Project.
You might run into your favorite artist at a dive bar
Stromae did it. And many others live around the city including Dave Matthews, Sir Mix-A-Lot and Macklemore.
Basically, Seattle is the music capital of the world.
