The Ten Commandments of Clemson Football

Because for Tigers Football is a second religion

If you know anything about Clemson, you know that we sort of like football. And by sort of, I mean we live and breath it, we hold it in the highest regards, it is our religion.

We all go through, what I think, is pretty close to hell throughout the week so football Saturdays is our giant party celebrating the fact that we made it. We all come together before the games and bond over alcohol and food.

Game days are the days where every student on campus gets each other. The engineers, nurses, business majors, bio majors, and education majors all finally have something to talk about that everyone gets. Everyone knows Clemson football, everyone loves Clemson football.

Here are The Ten Commandments of Clemson Football that are an absolute must on game day.

1. Thou shall always wear orange and purple.

Unless otherwise noted, you HAVE to wear Clemson colors. You should at least always have orange on, otherwise your loyalty will be questioned. You should be wearing these colors with pride, no one should have to tell you this.

2. Thou shall participate in all the cheers

Please don’t be the loser that everyone hates because they don’t participate. The best part of the game, other than winning, is the atmosphere and if you aren’t participating then you are only bringing us down. You best believe when everyone else is shouting, your mouth will be moving too.

3. Thou shall tailgate

Okay, if you don’t tailgate for football games, there is no hope for you. Sorry but who doesn’t tailgate? Tailgating is the only way to mentally and physically prepare for the four-hour stress fest to come. Serious question: If you haven’t drunkenly consumed fifteen pounds of food while dancing like an idiot, then how are you supposed to have fun in the game?

4. Thou shall be All In

This is a given. If you don’t wake up on game days so excited that you pee yourself, then you aren’t All In. If you don’t scream until you lose your voice, you aren’t All In. If you don’t love Deshaun Watson, then you aren’t All In.

5. Thou shall respect The Hill.

If you don’t experience The Hill at least once in your time at Clemson, then you have lost big time. The Hill is probably the most exciting place to be, other than the field of course. It is so much fun because everyone is up and moving and screaming and high-fiving and loving life. The best part is watching drunk people fall down it.

6. Thou shall start the Cadence Count and participate in every. Single. One.

You need to know this. Don’t tell anyone you don’t know this. That is sad and embarrassing. This is like the Clemson Prayer. It is said about 4 million times on game days. That is not an exaggeration.

7. Thou shall stay the entire game

Rain or shine, you go and you stay. Prepare for bad weather so you aren’t miserable and go with people who will have fun the whole time. You are no kind of fan if you don’t stay to rush the field. Leaving the game early is like only getting half of the experience and you don’t want that.

8. Thou shall welcome all away team fans

Guys, we are Clemson. We have a reputation to uphold. If we want to continue to be one of the best schools in the nation with one of the best football teams and the most exciting first 25 seconds of football, then we have to play nice. The away team fans also contribute to the atmosphere so we need to respect them and TRY OUR BEST to respect their poor life choice to attend any other college than Clemson. Also, be nice to them, they’re about to get their asses handed to them.

9. Thou shall STRONGLY dislike the USC Gamecocks

Okay so this isn’t a game day rule but you should put this into practice every day of your life. I say strongly dislike because hating is for haters and we don’t hate. We just strongly dislike the idea of a gamecock rolling into our territory. November 26.

10. Thou shall have fun and be proud to be a tiger

Nothing is better than a football Saturday in Clemson, SC and everyone should experience it. The stadium is lit, the people are hyped, the atmosphere is electric, and the sport is awesome. There is no greater feeling than having won a tough game and rushing the field to be hand-in-hand with your fellow students singing the alma mater. Thank god we are Clemson Tigers, amirite?
