BREAKING: Male student found dead at Kilachand Hall

Police and fire trucks have surrounded the building since early this morning

There is an investigation underway on the ninth floor of the Kilachand Honors Dormitory Residence.

Police and fire trucks have surrounded the building since early this morning.

BUPD told The Tab there is an ongoing police investigation to find out what happened on the ninth floor. The ninth floor is the last floor of Kilachand and is used as a study lounge.

Police have reported they are investigating the death of a male student. They will not release the identity of the student until the family is notified. Officials believe the student is not a resident of Kilachand Hall.

A resident of Kilachand reported the incident to the police at 8:30am this morning.

An ambulance arrived on the scene at 12:10pm.

At around 1:00pm, Charles Dellheim, the Director of Kilachand Honors College, emailed students living in Kilachand to notify them about the discovery of the body and that the ninth floor will be closed during the investigation. The email also asked students to call their parents and say they are “safe and well.”

Dellheim added that crisis counselors are also currently available at the Residence Life office in Kilachand Hall for anyone who needs to talk with someone.

Another resident of Kilachand said they were woken up this morning by an RA. The RA said that police would be in and out of the suite. A little while later, a policeman came and told the students to keep the blinds close and had both residents leave their room. The resident providing us this information walked to a friend’s room in a different hallway and “saw a body being covered up on the roof of the first floor lounge.”

At 2:15pm, President Brown sent out an email to the BU community about the events that took place this morning. He asked that we “be mindful of the gravity of this loss and respectful of the privacy of a grieving family.” He also added that they “cannot at this time offer additional information about identity or circumstances.”

Brennan Carney (COM ’18), a resident of Kilachand Hall told The Tab there were signs put up warning students not to go up to the ninth floor.

“When I got the main elevator from the eighth floor there were already police officers and residence officers coming down.”

Residents were unaware of what was going on but witnessed “a lot of police officers in the lobby.”

Brennan also said the study room is usually not empty but guesses it was that early in the morning.
