The incurable Zika virus has just hit Massachusetts

There has been one confirmed case

Chilling reports claim the first confirmed case of Zika virus in Massachussets.

The Zika virus has been making news recently for being a confirmed cause of birth defects, specifically microcephaly, in thousands of babies in Brazil. Authorities there have taken an unusual measure of warning women to not get pregnant at this time.

This virus is now allegedly making its way across the globe through mosquito transmission. According to The New York Times, about 31 cases of the virus have been reported in 11 states since last year. The majority of theses cases however originated in countries where the virus is rampant—not the U.S.

Although The World Health Organization warns that the Zika virus is “spreading explosively” throughout the Americas, health officials are urging us not to worry. Dr. Reisen, editor of the Journal of Medical Entomology, assured The Times that “the fact that American cities are less crowded and that the use of air conditioning and window screens is widespread means that it is very unlikely that the virus will spread in the United States as it has in less developed countries in South and Central America.”

The one and only confirmed case in Massachusetts is that of an individual who recently traveled to an area where Zika is actively being transmitted, to which The U.S. Centers for Disease Control has now issued a warning against traveling.
