BU is selling the building with our favorite Citgo sign

We can’t bear to C-IT-GO

Future terriers may need to find a new North Star to guide them home from Allston at night.

BU announced Thursday that it’s actively trying to sell the block of Buildings in Kenmore Square under the Citgo sign.

Shouldn’t they have to ask us permission before breaking our hearts and putting them up for sale? Guess not.

Although the sign itself can’t be found on Realitor.com, 660 Beacon Street’s new owner will not only get the building but also the airspace above it. This means that the future of the Citgo sign is literally up in the air.

According to The Boston Globe, this is the “final move in a decades-long plan by Boston University to spark redevelopment in the once-grungy square that serves as its front door.”

This could be really positive – new residential and commercial space would certainly add to the edge of our BU world, as long as the sign stays.

To the sign’s future owner: please leave it be, we never want to C-IT-GO.
