A Cali girl’s take on Boston’s first snow
It was cold
The day has finally come for us Californians. Snow. It’s here.
For many, it’s their first day back in Boston. What a great way to start the new semester, right?
We all check our phones for the weather, and when you saw that the app had snow on it, don’t lie and say you didn’t get at least a little bit excited.
My mom first alerted me of it before I could check the weather app.
All the way from California she texted me saying that there was snow in Boston. The first thing I did was run to my window to see, and I immediately texted a fellow Californian about it.
Last night you could see it falling from the sky if you looked out your window. I was amazed, but not fully committed to stepping out into the cold just yet. I’ll see it tomorrow, I thought.
And yes, I saw it. And it was COLD.
It’s not like I’ve never seen snow before. California has mountains, FYI. But this was a different experience. A lot of the snow back in California is unnatural, meaning it came from a machine. But here in Boston, there definitely isn’t a machine. It is insane how much snow piled up overnight, and how pretty it looked.
It may be dorky but I was in awe by the beauty of Boston’s snow. The way it covered the ground so perfectly, and the way your feet sunk in and left an imprint was just really cool to me.
Ya girl got her first snowfall in Boston on snapchat. Guilty as charged. I really don’t care how obnoxious it is, the snapchat world needs to see that I have experienced a snowfall in the East Coast.
However, the beauty of snow doesn’t compensate for the cold, wet, difficult situations it comes with. After about three minutes I realized this is no joke. This is just the start of what is to come.
My face was cold, I could even feel my eyelids getting cold. Yes, my eyelids.
Californians: you all better suit up for this. Snow boots, parkas and everything else you need to survive.
We got this.
