My house got robbed while we were home

The robber walked right out the back door

On Monday, we thought the worst thing that could happen that day was the Bachelor choosing the wrong contestant.

Little did we know that while we were all home and in the upstairs apartment enjoying homemade cookies and reality TV, someone came into our home, rifled through people’s bedrooms and stole three laptops. Until now, we had never felt unsafe in our house, even with the “Brighton Tickler.”

After the show ended my housemates went back downstairs to their own floor to find a man in their apartment. He stopped, turned around and made eye contact with one of my roommates and then proceeded to run right out the back door.

Only after we called 911 and the Boston police came to the apartment, did we learn that our next-door neighbors had the same thing happen to them on Saturday night, and a house across the street had been robbed on Sunday during the day while they were also home, but in their yard.

Clearly whoever this is feels very bold, so being home is not enough to stop him.

Although we should have already all been cautious, we definitely would have been on higher alert if information about this man had been shared very publicly. Not only had there been three break-ins and robberies, the man has been spotted lurking in several backyards in the surrounding streets and the police have been called on multiple occasions.

Many people are lulled into a false sense of security and think that “this won’t happen to me,” but that’s what we had thought, too.
