Why would I go abroad when I go to Boston College?

How could anyone want to miss tailgate season (I mean football season?)

Studying abroad seems like a right of passage for BC students.

Even before I was actually an Eagle I knew that going abroad was the thing to do as a junior. Looking at colleges, I thought this was the coolest thing. Who wouldn’t want to do that?

When it came to my sophomore year all my friends started to talk about where they wanted to go, and it seemed like everyone had it totally figured out. Me on the other hand, I wanted to be in Boston for every chance I had left.

The thought of going abroad in the fall was almost laughable for me. How could anyone want to miss tailgate season. (I mean football season?)

Tailgating off campus was definitely more fun than taking shots in sophomore dorms before strolling to Shea. With all the mid-day games we had last semester, boozy breakfast was a must every Saturday AM.

Not only do we have tailgating in the fall, but there’s also parents weekend. As exciting as it is for your parents to hang out with your friends and their families, it’s more exciting to see them in your element. (Plus, parents always bring nice alcohol and food so that definitely doesn’t hurt.)

Taking a poll: how many of these parents do you think shotgunned or funneled with their kids?

Let’s also not forget Thanksgiving break. This may seem weird – a reason to stay at school is break. But realistically, who doesn’t want to go home and see everyone from high school on Thanksgiving Eve?

Now you think: OK, so I’ll go abroad in the spring, Boston winters are miserable anyway. But Christmas break comes and you FINALLY get to see everyone who was just abroad. Can you really leave them now?

If you need more reasons to stay for spring semester, don’t worry because I’ve got ’em.

OK so you didn’t know Plexapalooza was going to be lit, but it was so don’t underestimate CAB. (Expecting big things for Modstock!)

Even without Plexapalooza being unreal do you really want to miss the Beanpot? For the squad who is currently abroad: it was hype. (We beat BU, obviously.)

Beanpot was also the same night as Fetty Wap at House of Blues so for any who didn’t get Beanpot tix, Fetty is pretty chill too I’d say.

Now if these weren’t convincing enough and you insist on making the argument that “I didn’t know all of this would happen while I was gone” let this soak in: Marathon Monday. You know it, you love it, you may or may not remember seeing any runners, but it’s all in good fun.

Realistically, after college is it socially acceptable to have “shots-o-clock” and be drunk before 8am? Didn’t think so.

Although being at BC I didn’t get to have Gusta Pizza in Florence, have a Guinness in Ireland, take pictures on the Amsterdam sign or take a pill in Ibiza to show Avicii I was cool, I wouldn’t trade my junior year in Boston for anything.
