Things you’ll only understand if you go to Auburn

We don’t have to talk about those bunny things in the art museum pond

There are a lot of things that people traditionally associate with Auburn University. Everyone generally thinks of Toomer’s Lemonade, rolling the trees at Toomer’s Corner and game days.

But there are some things you’ll only understand after you’ve been here for awhile.

The sacredness of Krispy Kreme

The fact that we have to drive all the way to Columbus to enjoy some fresh Krispy Kreme donuts is maddening. BUT, soon we will have a Krispy Kreme of our own and future Auburn students will not know our struggle.

Until ours is built (which is taking forever) we will continue to go on mini road trips with our friends when we get a craving. Distance makes the heart grow fonder, right?

The blessing that is brunch at The Hound

Nothing cures a weekend hangover better than Brunch at The Hound. They have French toast, pancakes, shrimp and grits and a myriad of other delicious treats as well as mimosas. You can also order some much-needed coffee or tea from Coffee Cat next door, delivered directly to your table. Auburn student Peter Taliaferro recommends the Organic Chai Tea Latte (and I second that).

Using ‘War Eagle’ sarcastically

When things go wrong, you just have to say “War Eagle” and move on. Fail a test? “War Eagle!” Trip on the concourse? “War Eagle!” The Chick-fil-A line too long? “War Eagle!” Sleep through a class? “War Eagle!”

This amazing concoction

This doesn’t even need a description. You know exactly what it is.

The Little Italy line on the weekend

It’s always the longest when you are the most desperate for pizza. Making the decision to either wait in the line for the delicious pizza or go somewhere else is one of the hardest decisions one makes on a Friday night. And does Little Italy ever actually close? I don’t think so.

Thank you, Little Italy, for always being there when we need you most. I would like to give a special shoutout to everyone who works at Little Italy for always being fun and friendly, even at 3am in the morning.

Little Italy is definitely one of the best places to hang out with friends, get some pitchers and eat the best pizza in the world. Friends who go to Little Italy together, stay together.

The blueberry bubblegum security shuttle driver

He’s sweet, he’s friendly and he brings people together. If you haven’t met him yet or heard his famous story, you are missing out. If you ever get on a shuttle that smells like blueberries, ask for a piece of gum and ask about the story.

The stress, disappointment and excitement that all go along with Callouts on Cater Lawn

Callouts are the single most stressful thing at Auburn (besides classes). You are either going to be joining on of Auburn’s amazing organizations or you will remain standing in the crowd – disappointed but determined to find your place. This is a tradition that is unique to Auburn and doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon.
