Auburn is pumped for smoothies named after our favorite dance moves

Our favorite is ‘The Quan,’ with hints of peach and passionfruit

Here in Auburn, we love three things: our sports, our school and our community. After that, we love our smoothies, and the clear frontrunner for that love is called Smooth N Groove.

From game days to everyday life, it’s clear the ever present smoothie spot provides customers with more than just a product. “Smoothies that make you dance” isn’t just their tagline – they actually play your favorite song while serving up smoothies named after popular dance moves like “The Whip,” “Tootsie Roll” and “Flex.”

And it all starts with one simple question: “What’s your favorite fruit?” The Tab Auburn sat down with owner Keon Davis, who explained the interesting story behind the legendary AU business.

Keon said: “It all started back in 2011. I was set up in a gym and I had a dream that I wanted to achieve. At first I didn’t have any loans, but I didn’t want any because I felt it would be moving backwards. I was tired of looking for help in the world. I wanted them to come to me from now on.”

When we asked about his motivation, Keon talked about how the idea came about.

“My motivations for success are those who came before me. I came from a single parent home, and that made me want more for myself. I knew I couldn’t help what happened in the world before I got here, but I could change my life for the better.

“If I can see you, then there is no reason for me to look up to you. What I’m trying to do is create generational wealth.”

And he says Smooth N Groove is bigger than just dollar signs and longevity. They thrive on positive customer experiences and a work environment that makes employees feel like they’re part of a family.

He said: “The work environment is filled with fun and energy. Here, we like to think that we are the Cam Newtons of smoothies. When people come to us, we want them to forget about their problems they may be facing and share a laugh and a smoothie with them. It could change someone’s life.”

“Thanks to Smooth N Groove, I know that I am a part of something stable. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Another young employee named Joshua Williams said: “Working with Keon is like working for your big brother. He never asks us to do anything he wouldn’t do to get the most out of us. One thing we pride ourselves on is staying true to ourselves and who we are as a brand.”

Smooth N Groove is big on social media, and they recently ran a campaign called “Snapchat me that smoothie.” Students were encouraged to send in photos sipping on the famous smoothies.
