Why there’s nothing better than being a SoCal kid

SoCal told by a native

There was never a dull moment during my time in Southern California, my friends and I were constantly doing something, whether it was a trip to Disneyland or just going to walk on Third Street Promenade. We would drive to UCLA to get an ice cream sandwich or to Beverly Hills for Sprinkles Cupcakes.

Driving through Hollywood homes was always a fun and new adventure, planning which homes we wanted to live in twenty years from now. Hiking the Hollywood sign is a must-do if you have a free day and want to set your calves on fire.

I grew up five minutes from the beach. It was not uncommon to go hang out on the sand before or after school. “Senior Ditch Day” was an excuse to lay out in the sun instead of spending five hours in classes. When you open your trunk you will most likely find a bag of beach equipment (towels, sunscreen, and a speaker) just in case of a spontaneous trip down to the pier.

Pacific coast Highway actually does exist, and if you drive it long enough you will end up in Canada. We do have roller coasters on the piers, which if you think about it does not sound safe. The Staples Center becomes a second home during hockey and basketball season, and there is always a fun concert to go to if you are not athletically inclined. Downtown LA is also home to the one and only LA Live, where you can go bowling for $75 an hour, or enjoy a nice meal before a sporting event. Baseball fans can enjoy beautiful weather and froyo in a plastic helmet for all home games. And if going to one stadium isn’t enough you have the option of going to Anaheim for the Angels or Los Angeles for the Dodgers.

If sports or the beach is not your thing, LA is home to 4 huge theme parks! Disneyland, Knotts Berry Farm, Universal Studios, and Six Flags. If the weather permits and school is not in session these parks open some of the best water parks around.

Hop in a bathing suit and go from roller coaster to water slide all within a few feet from each other. And if you would rather stare at water than go hop in it there is always the Long Beach Aquarium, home to a variety of sea creatures and water wildlife.

For some reason In N Out only tastes good in California, we are also home to the original El Taras co and Rinaldi’s Deli. Food in Southern California is plentiful and delicious.

Los Angeles is not only home to fun activities but its cultural aspects are what keep people coming back to visit and stay.
