This June, people might be surprised to see that Maura Higgins isn’t in her usual hosting spot on Love Island USA Aftersun. The former Love Island star pretty much stole the show when she was a contestant herself, so it made perfect sense for her to take the helm of AfterSun across the pond. But as season seven gets rolling, there’s someone else in her place. So, let’s take a look into the real reason Maura’s absent from her role.
Someone else stepped in for Maura on Love Island USA AfterSun
As Love Island USA season seven is a-go, people are treated to a kinda cringey segment from Maura and Australian TV show host Sophie Monk.
The ladies act out a phone call in which sees Maura asking Sophie if she could step in for her on Aftersun as she’s been “double booked this summer.”
Sophie tells her Irish pal she can certainly host Love Island USA Aftersun, before whipping off her poolside attire and strutting towards the camera in a red dress.
Writing in the Instagram comments of the clip, Sophie also joked: “…we should both probably get an Oscar for this acting…”
The Love Island USA host isn’t gone for good
Maura has been hosting Love Island USA Aftersun since last year. And, although Sophie is filling her shoes for season seven, it’s reported that Maura hasn’t been axed for good.
An insider told The Sun: “She wasn’t able to commit to hosting Aftersun this season due to other work commitments, but she will be back on screen in some capacity later in the run.”
Per more IG comments from the clip, it seemed Maura was rumoured to be partaking in another reality TV show this summer – The Traitors.
Now, the rumours have officially been confirmed by The Sun.
She’ll follow in the footsteps of fellow Love Island alum Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu who also appeared on The Traitors.
One person commented on the post: “It seems everyone wants a bit of @maurahiggins at the moment. Excited to find out what the secret is!”
