A Gillian Anderson fan has spoken out to insist they’re “not a stalker” after they received comments over a viral video involving the X-Files star. On Saturday, October 3, Anderson was filmed outside the Soho Place theatre in London to greet fans and sign autographs after performing in the play Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? The clip, which has since racked up millions of views, sees the Sex Education actress addressing a particular group of fans who she recognises, saying they’re “distracting” her. “You guys cannot sit in the front row… I do not care, you cannot sit in the front row. It’s so distracting,” she says. The fans are then heard saying, “I’m sorry,” and, “I know.” Anderson finishes by telling them, “You can’t come 20 times and sit in the front row, it’ll drive me mad.” The interaction has sparked a wider conversation about the boundaries between celebrities and superfans. Hi everyone, just to say – pic.twitter.com/pmOJGBh3DH — Gillian Anderson (@GillianA) October 4, 2026 Anderson herself has since responded, writing in a statement shared on X, “The video doing the rounds is me talking with women I go back over 20 years with – so please don’t say anything negative to or about them. “We’re thrilled to be doing this show but for people in the front row, please be aware that in such an intimate venue we can all see you and sometimes, it can be a tad distracting! That’s all. All good. On with the show and love to everyone and thank you to all of those coming.” Gillian Anderson fan insists ‘I am not a stalker’ Amid the online discussion, one Gillian Anderson fan has now issued a lengthy statement after seeing her own name mentioned in connection with the controversy. @lily.scarlett.xx I’d resell my tickets and never go back, and move out of the united kingdom too!!! Imagine going so many times she’s realised and the show has only just started!!! KARMA is coming! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼. #makemeviral #makemefamous #gilliananderson #fandom #foryoupage @Gillian Anderson ♬ original sound – Lily-Scarlett The fan, who goes by Marine on X, stressed that she was not one of the people Anderson was speaking to in the footage, but said she had seen her name being mentioned in criticism of fans online. Marine explained that she first met Anderson at Brussels Comic Con last year, before meeting her again at Liverpool Comic Con this year, insisting that she had always been respectful and had “never crossed boundaries”. She also addressed comments about her support for G-Spot, Anderson’s functional soft drinks brand, after claiming she had seen people saying she was “obsessed with G-Spot to the point of calling the police”. “I had a Monster Energy drink addiction before discovering Gillian’s brand and I just want to promote and show my support to the brand that made me change my drinking habits for the best and healthiest way,” she said. The X user went on to explain that her recent trip to London to see the actress perform had been planned months in advance and was the first time she had ever been to the theatre. She said she had booked her tickets back in March and “clearly wasn’t aware of the secret rules you had to respect” when attending a play. “I went to see the play several times and did stage doors too and if I knew doing it several times would embarrass Gillian or make her feel uncomfortable I would have 100% not booked so many times,” she wrote. I wanted to write a little message because I've seen my name appearing here, putting me in the "stalker" bag and I feel like I want to clarify some things. Thanks for reading 💚 pic.twitter.com/1UmzJE1R0o — Marine 🛸 (@HerNameIsSpooky) October 4, 2026 Marine said she had thanked Anderson for her performance when she met her at the stage door and again insisted she had “never crossed boundaries”, adding that Anderson had always smiled and thanked her during their interactions. Despite seeing her at the theatre multiple times, Marine said that she was not one of the fans Anderson can be heard addressing in the footage currently circulating online. “Both times it wasn’t me she was talking to. I wasn’t there when she said that, so I ask for people to stop saying my name when they don’t know anything about me or weren’t even there to witness what happened,” she explained. She also apologised to anyone who had been offended by her behaviour, explaining that she had wanted to share photos and videos from her experience with fans who couldn’t attend themselves. “I am not a stalker when it comes to Gillian, I have an insane amount of admiration and respect and I always behaved in that way towards her and other people in the fandom, not pushing limits, not breaking boundaries,” she concluded. Marine added that she had “reflected a lot” on the trip and said she wanted to clarify the situation because she would “hate to be misjudged” over comments being made about her online.
