Avengers: Endgame is back in cinemas tomorrow, but this isn’t quite the same Endgame you watched in 2019. Marvel is re-releasing the film as Avengers: Endgame Encore, and while the runtime is only around four minutes longer than the original, those extra minutes reportedly do a lot of work. We already knew the new version was supposed to connect directly to Avengers: Doomsday. Joe Russo even described it as a “critical companion story” and said it would create “a bridge from Endgame to Doomsday in a very unique way.” Now, following early international screenings, descriptions of the new footage have gone viral on social media. They reportedly reveal four major changes to the ending and credits. So, there is actually quite a lot going on in those few extra minutes. So, here is what has changed. Credit: Marvel Loki interrupts Steve and Peggy’s ending In the original film, Steve Rogers returns the Infinity Stones, goes back in time and chooses to stay with Peggy Carter. We then see the two of them dancing together in Peggy’s house as the film comes to an end. In Endgame Encore, that moment continues for a little longer. A knock comes from the door. Peggy goes to answer it while Steve stays out of sight. She asks the visitor, “Can I help you?” The visitor is Loki. According to reports from the early screenings, Loki responds, “No, but I can help you. Both of you.” Steve then comes out of hiding and is stunned to see him. The scene cuts away before we get an explanation. Doctor Doom comes for Bruce Banner A reported mid-credits scene takes us to Bruce Banner, who is living in isolation inside an underground military facility. Banner is apparently recording a video log and explains that he recently had his first Hulk incident in more than a decade. He says he has chosen to isolate himself because he does not want the Hulk to escape again. He then starts talking about an experimental gamma-radiation suppressor he has been working on. And then the lights start flickering. The recording glitches. The lights go out and Banner hears someone. He asks, “Who are you?” We then hear Doctor Doom’s voice. “Dr Banner, I’m here to collect you.” The footage then shows Banner struggling as he transforms into the Hulk. The camera falls to the floor, as we only see green light illuminating. So, it seems that Dr Doom has taken Bruce Banner with him. The TVA sees the multiverse collapsing Miss Minutes is heard reminding the TVA staff about their mission to keep universes separate. Casey then tells Mobius that two realities, Earth-10005 and Earth-1127, are about to collide. A monitor shows the two Earths firing missiles at one another as each tries to destroy the other before the collision. Then things get much worse. O.B. reports further collision alerts before eventually announcing that the multiverse is collapsing. There are also monitors showing other realities that have already been destroyed, including Earth-400083, the universe associated with the Eric Bana Hulk film, and Earth-82111, the home reality of Captain Carter from What If…?. The universe of the 2015 Fantastic Four film is also listed. Earth-10005 is the most interesting one because that is the reality associated with the Fox X-Men films and later explicitly identified in Deadpool & Wolverine. Earth-1127, meanwhile, is still a mystery. Doctor Doom gets his own version of the Endgame hammering Credit: Marvel If you remember the original Endgame credits, they ended with the sound of metal being hammered. That sound was a callback to Iron Man, specifically Tony Stark building his first suit in the cave. Endgame Encore keeps that sound but changes what we’re looking at. Instead of Tony Stark, flashes of Doctor Doom forging his mask appear with the hammering. We apparently don’t see the full sequence for very long. It is more of a visual callback than a full scene, but it gives that famous Iron Man sound a completely different meaning. I actually can’t wait to see it on screen now.
