Sterling Point’s family tree is a LOT, so here’s how Annie, Ramona and Connor are related

In Amazon Prime Video’s Sterling Point, somehow everyone is connected to everyone, and it’s so confusing. So, here’s a simple explanation of Sterling Point‘s family tree including how Annie, Ramona and Connor are related, who Ramona’s biological dad actually is, and where Joe and Ellis fit into all this chaos.

The new coming of age show starts with Annie Jacobson heading to a Canadian island after her estranged grandfather dies. She thinks she’s there to learn more about her family, and things get complicated very quickly. Because Annie soon discovers she has a sister she never knew existed, her dad has been hiding major family secrets, and basically everyone seems to be connected somehow.

So, if you’ve lost track of who is related to who, here’s the Sterling Point family tree explained.

Annie and Connor were adopted by Steven and Goldie

Annie Jacobson and her twin brother Connor were adopted as newborns by Steven and Goldie. They grew up in New York believing Steven and Goldie were their parents, and they had no idea that Goldie had another biological child. Steven had believed he couldn’t have children, which is part of why the family history gets so complicated later on.

Goldie eventually became unhappy with her life in New York and returned to Sterling Point with Annie and Connor when they were very young. Steven followed them and brought the twins back to New York.

The twins were so young that they don’t remember their time on the island.

So, who is Ramona?

This is where Annie’s family tree gets wild. Ramona is Goldie’s biological daughter, making her Annie and Connor’s younger sister. Goldie had Ramona after adopting Annie and Connor. Ramona was born in Sterling Point and was raised there by her grandfather, Gordon. Annie and Connor had no idea Ramona existed. Steven knew about her, though, and kept the two sides of the family apart for years.

Gordon is Goldie’s father, making him Annie, Connor and Ramona’s maternal grandfather. He raised Ramona after Goldie died giving birth to her. Gordon’s death is what brings Annie and Connor back into the Sterling Point story. He leaves the island to the three siblings, which means Annie suddenly has a connection to the place she never knew she had.

Basically, Gordon is the reason the whole family starts getting dragged back together.

Who was Goldie, and how is she connected to Joe?

Goldie was Ramona’s biological mother and Annie and Connor’s adoptive mother. She was unhappy in her marriage to Steven and eventually filed for divorce. She also rekindled her relationship with her high-school sweetheart, Joe, who was married to Kate at the time.

Goldie planned to leave Steven and stay in Sterling Point to raise her children, but she died while giving birth to Ramona after suffering from a previously unknown heart condition. Steven later told Annie and Connor that their mum had died of cancer, so they grew up without knowing what had really happened.

Joe, meanwhile, was the man everyone initially believed was Ramona’s biological father. He knew about Ramona but didn’t help raise her, while Gordon looked after her in Sterling Point. Joe is also Ellis’ dad, meaning Ellis and Ramona were initially believed to be half-siblings. After Gordon’s death, he left Ramona’s guardianship to Joe.

So, who actually is Ramona’s biological dad?

Steven is Ramona’s biological dad. Yes, this is where the family tree gets even more complicated, if that’s even possible. For most of the season, everyone assumes Ramona is Joe and Goldie’s daughter.

But Annie mentions that Steven is colourblind. Ramona realises she is colourblind too, and because colour blindness can be inherited, she starts questioning whether Steven could actually be her biological father.

Steven takes a DNA test. And the result confirms that Steven is Ramona’s biological father. So Ramona isn’t Joe’s daughter after all. That means Ramona is Annie and Connor’s sister through their adoptive family, but she isn’t biologically related to them.
