These are the real places behind Sterling Point and yes, you can actually visit them

After binge-watching Sterling Point like everyone else, I had this weird urge to fly to Canada because that place is unreal. Well, the fictional Sterling Point isn’t actually real, but the gorgeous part of Ontario where the series was filmed most definitely is.

So, if you’re already planning your own Sterling Point summer, here’s where you can actually go.

Is Sterling Point actually a real place?

Not really. The town and island of Sterling Point are fictional, but the series was filmed in the very real Muskoka region of Ontario, Canada, as well as Toronto. The show features locations around Lake Muskoka, Lake Rosseau and Lake Joseph.

So, no, you can’t put “Sterling Point” into Google Maps and end up at Annie and Connor’s island. But you can visit some of the real places that brought the series to life.

Also, a real cottage called Sterling Point does exist on Lake Joseph. It was used in Megan Park’s 2024 film My Old Ass, not as the fictional island in the Prime Video series. The cottage is privately owned, so you can’t simply book it for a weekend.

So, where was Sterling Point filmed?

The series was filmed in Ontario, with production split between Toronto and the Muskoka area. Muskoka is roughly two hours north of Toronto and is famous for its lakes, forests and cottage communities. Basically, it looks exactly like the kind of place where you’d want to disappear for the summer.

Creator Megan Park has also spent summers in Muskoka since the 1990s. She told The Nightly that “cottage life in the summer is a really huge part of Canadian culture.”

Park also wanted Sterling Point to show how the region is changing, including wealthy newcomers buying land and building huge homes. “We can really show Muskoka for what it really is,” she said.

Can you visit Mortimer’s Marina?

Mortimer’s Marina, at 1930 Mortimers Point Road in Port Carling, Ontario, was used for filming and is an actual working marina. It offers boat services, fuel, propane exchange and short-term float-plane docking. There’s also a coffee, smoothie and ice cream bar, so you can actually stop for a drink or something sweet while you’re there.

The marina currently lists its summer opening hours as Friday to Monday, 9 am to 5 pm, although you should check its official site before travelling because hours can change.

What about Sparrow Lake Camp?

Sparrow Lake Camp in Severn, Ontario, is another real location used in Sterling Point. The camp dates back to 1912 and sits on Sparrow Lake, part of the Trent-Severn Waterway. And the setting is very Sterling Point coded. There’s loads of trees, water and classic Canadian summer-camp energy.

But you can’t just turn up and wander around because you recognise it from the show. The camp doesn’t allow uninvited visitors on the property.

It does offer tours for families considering sending their children there, which can be arranged in advance. The camp also runs overnight programmes for children aged six to 16 during July and August and offers accommodation and group rentals at certain times of year.

Now, can you visit Gordon’s cottage?

Gordon’s cottage, which Annie inherits in Sterling Point, appears to be a real house rather than a studio set. Cosmopolitan reported that the show’s location manager had been looking for a “classic, old-style Muskoka cottage” for the production.

The house used in the series appears to match the historic Gordon Bay House on Lake Joseph. The property was once operated as a hotel and was reportedly maintained by the same family for almost a century. The property also appears to be privately owned, meaning you can’t currently book it as a holiday rental.

Which means, sadly, you can’t just recreate Annie’s summer by renting Gordon’s cottage.

So, where can you actually stay?

Luckily, you don’t need to inherit a Canadian island to get the Sterling Point experience. Muskoka has loads of holiday cottages and rental properties, so you can stay in the region and get the same lakeside summer vibe without trespassing on a filming location.

Jayne’s Cottages is one option for finding a Muskoka stay, and the company has also documented the real Sterling Point cottage used in My Old Ass.

And you don’t need the exact house anyway. Muskoka is the whole point. As Jacob Whiteduck-Lavoie, who plays Ellis, told Toronto Life, “The scenery is insane. It’s just peak Canada, you know?” He even said, “I feel like Muskoka is actually the main character of the show.”

And he’s kind of right.
