Sterling Point’s Ella Rubin explains whether Annie really loves Ellis more than Rory by end

For most of Sterling Point, Annie is romantically involved with Rory, but by the end of the season, she’s with Ellis, and honestly, it’s all a bit complicated. Now, Ella Rubin, who plays Annie, has actually opened up about how her character feels about both boys.

Annie finds herself caught between her childhood friend Rory and island local Ellis throughout the season. She initially starts a relationship with Rory, but things change when she gets together with Ellis just before she’s due to leave Sterling Point.

By the end of the season, Annie decides to stay in Sterling Point while the rest of her family, including Ramona, heads back to New York City. So, does Annie actually love Ellis, or does she still have feelings for Rory?

Well, Ella has now explained what’s really going on with Annie’s feelings.

So, who does Annie actually love?

After Annie kisses Ellis and their relationship officially begins, she asks Ramona what being in love is actually supposed to feel like. During their conversation in episode seven, Annie admits that she’s trying to make sense of her feelings and work out whether what she feels is love.

Ella told Swooon, “I don’t think she knows yet. I think she knows she feels something that she’s never felt before that’s like completely unique.”

So, Annie clearly knows that what she feels for Ellis is different, but she isn’t ready to put a label on it just yet. And this is where Rory comes into the picture.

Annie kisses Rory first and spends most of the season in a relationship with him, so her feelings for him were never fake or insignificant. Ella makes it clear that Annie genuinely cares about both boys, but the way each relationship affects her is different.

“I think that is the difference between how she feels with Ellis and Rory,” she said.

Ella then explained, “With Rory, he kind of sparks the fire that allows her to realise what she feels for Ellis because it is very real with both of them.”

So, Rory isn’t just someone Annie dates before moving on. Her relationship with him actually helps her understand what she feels for Ellis.

So, does Annie have stronger feelings for Ellis?

Ella doesn’t say outright that Annie loves Ellis more than Rory, but her comments do suggest that Annie’s feelings for Ellis are becoming more significant.

She explained that there are “very real feelings there on all ends”, so it’s clear that Annie’s connection with Rory still matters. However, by the end of season one, Annie chooses to stay in Sterling Point after getting together with Ellis, while the rest of her family heads back to New York City.

Still, Ella doesn’t think Annie has completely worked out what love means to her.

“I don’t know if she knows what is love for her yet, especially as a teenager,” she explained.

She added that Annie and Ellis are “on the road”.

There’s also a lot happening in Annie’s life outside of the love triangle. She’s dealing with everything she’s learning about her family and her late mum, while also trying to figure out the “person she wants to be and how she wants to move forward in the world”.

So, for now, Annie seems to be leaning towards Ellis, but she’s still working out exactly what those feelings mean. Whether that relationship lasts is something season two will have to answer.
