Aww, the sweetest thing about The Odyssey is Travis Scott showing up at 5am to learn filming

Forget the huge battle scenes and stacked cast, because this might actually be the cutest behind-the-scenes story to come out of The Odyssey so far.

Travis Scott has opened up about filming Christopher Nolan’s latest epic, and instead of treating it like a quick acting gig, he basically turned up as the world’s most enthusiastic film student.

Speaking to Variety, Travis revealed he was arriving on set at 5am every single day just so he could watch Nolan and cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema work.

“I’m looking in the camera. I’m all under the hood,” he said, before joking: “Ain’t no kicking it.”

That’s some serious dedication.

Travis only has a small role in The Odyssey, playing the bard Phemius, but he clearly wanted to soak up as much knowledge as possible while working alongside one of Hollywood’s biggest directors.

According to him, the biggest lesson he took away from Nolan was simple: “Always see the vision through. Never go short on the vision.”

It’s actually pretty wholesome hearing someone who’s already one of the biggest artists in the world still wanting to learn from people around him. The rapper also said the atmosphere on set was completely different to anything he’d experienced before, because everyone was laser-focused on the film.

“Nobody was in their trailer,” he explained. “That was new for me; I was used to doing what I’m doing and going back to the trailer. But I was really wanting to learn, so I didn’t really want to be in the trailer anyway.”

Instead, the cast stayed close to the action, watching scenes unfold and fully immersing themselves in the production.

Recalling one moment filming, Travis said: “All those actors were there, and I’m standing on the table. And it wasn’t like Travis rager sh*t, or we’re kicking it at a function. No, this was some serious sh*t. There’s a camera right here in my face. Nolan’s right there. And they’re all actors, so everyone’s in their zone, locked in.”

It’s another little glimpse into just how intense Nolan’s sets really are, with cast members seemingly wanting to be part of every moment rather than disappearing between takes.

Travis and Christopher Nolan have actually been working together for years. Their collaboration first started when Travis created the end-credits track for Nolan’s 2020 film Tenet. Now, alongside appearing in The Odyssey, he also co-wrote the movie’s end-credits song, When I’m Home.

Turns out waking up before sunrise was all part of making the most of the experience.
