Travis Scott reveals why acting in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey absolutely terrified him

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey has already given us plenty of behind-the-scenes stories from its stacked cast, but now Travis Scott has opened up about what it was actually like stepping in front of the camera.

Appearing on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, the rapper reflected on making the film, which also features his song When I’m Home over the end credits. Although he’d previously worked with Nolan on Tenet, this time things were very different.

Jimmy Fallon pointed out that The Odyssey is Scott’s first ever number one movie. “It feels way different,” Scott admitted. “Even my theater teacher from high school, they reached out to my mom. This is like another stratosphere of greatness. All the people [who] were scolding you in when you were in school, trying to make you a great human, are like, ‘You finally did something good.'”

While Scott and Nolan had collaborated before, he explained that this call wasn’t about making another song.

“My phone went off and it just said Chris and I was thinking, ‘Okay I don’t know what this is about. Maybe he wants to go to a show,'” he recalled. “So I pick up and he’s like, ‘Would you be interested in acting in a movie?’ But I didn’t think it was for him. I thought it might be for somebody else.”

Scott described Nolan as “a real mentor of mine” and said he would have signed up for whatever project the director asked him to do.

In The Odyssey, Scott plays a Greek bard who sings about Odysseus’ victories during the Trojan War. But despite his confidence as a performer, acting alongside some of Hollywood’s biggest names was another story entirely.

“I didn’t know that it was going to be Anne Hathaway, Tom [Holland], and Robert Pattinson,” he said. “A bunch of amazing people. And I don’t know what the f**k I’m doing.”

He added: “Chris is an amazing director. Everybody made me feel comfortable. I was just glad to be there and to watch him.”

Scott also said keeping his role under wraps wasn’t actually the difficult part.

“It wasn’t hard to keep it a secret,” he explained. The bigger challenge was trying to make everybody believe that I did this.”

“I didn’t want people to think I got placed in this,” he added.
