Uwe Boll has been doing a lot since Citizen Vigilante dropped. Following a disastrous Q&A session, where the director clapped back at his critics, he’s now confirmed that the film has received its second ban in his home country. For better or worse, Citizen Vigilante has become a huge talking point since dropping in June. The film was denied an age rating in Germany over concerns about its anti-immigration and anti-Muslim messaging, with fears it could incite copycat attacks. The latest setback came after Germany’s age rating body once again refused to approve the film for streaming, with Boll announcing, “Unfortunately, we got banned today again.” While it did land the 18 rating for theatrical release, it still can’t be viewed online. — GFrei.News (@GFreiNews) July 7, 2026 Another detail that has sparked controversy is that it stars Armie Hammer in his comeback role after being blacklisted from Hollywood over multiple sexual assault and abuse allegations made against him. Hammer himself reportedly doesn’t like the finished product. An insider on the actor’s team told Puck’s Matthew Belloni, “The first time he saw it, he was in tears. He called me and said, ‘F**k. This is hateful, disgusting.’” Among the reactionary right, the film is being celebrated, leading Boll to announce plans for a sequel (he’s currently selling Citizen Vigilante t-shirts to raise funds). But when he took to Reddit for an AMA, it didn’t quite get the response he was looking for… Uwe Boll lashes out at Citizen Vigilante critics For the most part, the questions ripped Boll to shreds. Many brought up the fact that he’s been dubbed the world’s worst director after a series of critical and commercial flops, including Alone in the Dark, BloodRayne, Far Cry, and In the Name of the King. Initially, it seemed like Boll was unbothered by the questions. “As a director who is widely renowned for being one of the pre-eminent creators of movies that are so bad they’re bad, which movie would you personally say is your worst?” asked one, to which Boll replied, “Blubberella.” Another bluntly wrote, “Why do you continue to make movies, even after already making some of the worst movies ever?” Boll responded, “To top them all.” A third asked, “You once said actors are all little whores. Aren’t you a whore yourself pleasing right wingers?” And the filmmaker agreed. Boll also made a quip about the World of Warcraft movie flopping after one person noted that Blizzard rejected him from making the adaptation, saying: “We will not sell the movie rights, not to you… especially not to you.” But then another commenter pointed out, “Note, not a single Uwe Boll directed film has a higher ranking than Warcraft’s 29% among critics.” One noted the fact that Boll reportedly utilised a German tax loophole allowing wealthy individuals and corporations to write off 100% of their investments in film productions against their income taxes, meaning it was more profitable to make flops than hits. The loophole is no longer available, with the Redditor writing, “Hi Uwe. How are you financing your movies now, since they plugged the loophole with the tax write-offs?” Boll replied, “Gold.” Hi reddit. I am Uwe Boll. AMA. byu/UweBollAMA inmovies Another said, “Given your amplification of hateful rhetoric on social media, do you think any publicity is good publicity, or is your identification with the Sellners, Robinsons and Höckes a risky gamble?” Boll replied, “Both.” The list goes on and on. It seemed the filmmaker had an answer for everything, but then he shared a comment slamming his critics. “Guys, why a lot of you are stuck in the past. You love to hate and trash me,” he said, before urging people to watch his films and “open your eyes.” “Forget my name and just watch the movies. Look at the ratings at Amazon and you see what the REAL AUDIENCE believes,” he continued. “You are so in love of bashing me that you forgot yourself. I wish you all a great evening and now watch soccer in TV instead of wasting my time here.” The AMA was locked after just one day, but not before Redditors replied to this message. “Yes but they’re all sh*t Uwe,” said one, while another commented, “Your latest movie is just as bad as the old ones.” For all the latest film and TV updates and hot takes, like our Facebook page.
