Despite getting slammed online for being “comically bad” and “garbage”, filmmaker Uwe Boll has said he’ll make Citizen Vigilante 2 if enough people watch the first movie. Citizen Vigilante has been mired in controversy from the very beginning: it’s helmed by Uwe Boll, often referred to as the “world’s worst director” due to his critically panned films; disgraced actor Armie Hammer is the lead; and the plot is distinctly anti-immigrant. It centres on Sanders (Hammer), a man who takes the law into his own hands and kills immigrant perpetrators of crime, alongside the politicians and officials he believes are complicit. Amid fears it may incite copycat attacks in real life, Citizen Vigilante was denied an age certification in Germany, effectively banning it from being distributed and screened in Boll’s home country. It did, however, end up receiving a limited theatrical run in the US from June 19th, before landing on digital. Plus, over the weekend, Elon Musk dropped the film in its entirety on X for 48 hours, which has since ended. Citizen Vigilante is still sparking outrage online Boll has now said that a second movie could be in the works, writing on X, “Keep watching Citizen Vigilante and we can start shooting Part 2 soon.” Keep watching Citizen Vigilante and we can start shooting Part 2 soon pic.twitter.com/wmf5MHMCwk — uwe boll (@BollFILMS) June 28, 2026 He also revealed a mockup of the cover art, showing Armie Hammer as Sanders alongside the title Citizen Vigilante 2: The End of Somali Scams. And if that wasn’t controversial enough, Boll has also been sharing bizarre AI-generated images and clips, including one showing Armie Hammer’s vigilante standing over a beaten Supergirl. Unsurprisingly, the posts have only fuelled the backlash, with many accusing the director of trying to stir up outrage to keep Citizen Vigilante in the headlines. That made me very uncomfortable.” Another said, “They could have at least made a better propaganda piece. The movie is so comically bad I could not finish. Like a huge swat team standing in front of a metal box with 2 guns sticking out talking to the guy inside like. Lol what did they think?” A third added, “It’s being artificially inflated by people like Elon. It’s not an organic movement but one where people are actively trying to use art to promote their ideology. But they suck at it so it’ll be in the news for a weekend and fall off.” “At least when the left do a story about vigilantism we get V for Vendetta,” a fourth commented. “WTF is this? It’s so bad I want to bleach my eyes after watching this.” There are plenty of comments like this on X too, with one writing, “Love how the chuds are forced to pretend to like tax avoidance garbage because the right is incapable of creating art of any value.” Another said, “Citizen Vigilante is incredibly bad. Almost The Room level. The level of right-wing cope about it is embarrassing.” The richest man in the world is actively pushing a movie that openly promotes the graphic, brutal and wholesale slaughter of Muslim immigrants. This isn't some plausibly deniable hand gesture. This is explicit. https://t.co/Lxq5nL1heL pic.twitter.com/1rzZiHz8cZ — Josh Olson (@joshuarolson) June 27, 2026 A History of Violence writer Josh Olson also expressed concern about Elon Musk’s involvement, writing, “The richest man in the world is actively pushing a movie that openly promotes the graphic, brutal and wholesale slaughter of Muslim immigrants. This isn’t some plausibly deniable hand gesture. This is explicit.” For all the latest film and TV updates and hot takes, like our Facebook page.
