Former child star Daveigh Chase spent the last months of her life on Skid Row, Los Angeles’ biggest and most condensed settlement of homeless people. Despite seemingly having “millions” in residuals from her Disney days, where she voiced Lilo in the OG Lilo & Stitch film, Daveigh Chase battled with addiction issues in the final leg of her life. Her manager, John Ryan, said she was “too far gone” on substances like heroin and fentanyl. “We were so close to finding her,” John said. “Daveigh was the sweetest and brightest light in Hollywood. I can’t believe this is real. Her legacy and work will live on forever.” Credit: mpi11/MediaPunch/Shutterstock The ‘mayor’ of Skid Row met Daveigh Chase when she was homeless In a difficult-to-watch video that first emerged last year, Daveigh Chase was seen living on the street in Skid Row. The self-declared “mayor” of Skid Row, Kevin Call, who works closely with the homeless communities in the area, had interactions with her. “We do outreach, and she used to come through the line. But as I see her picture now, and I see what she looked like then…it was a big difference,” he told The New York Post whilst seeing a picture of Daveigh during her acting career. “That is what [the] disease of addiction do to a lot of celebrities, a lot of people that end up in this situation here at Skid Row.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by Kevin Call (@skidrowmayor) “Well, she was getting more thin every time I seen her, she was getting thinner, and that let me know that she had a disease that was unarrested, and she needed help,” he added. “And she couldn’t get the help fast enough before the disease took her life.” Daveigh Chase was initially hospitalised for malnutrition, but, at some point, she developed meningitis and a nasty blood infection. Though undoubtedly tragic, Kevin Call hoped that Daveigh’s passing brought closure to her family. “I hate to see what happened to her, but hopefully her family will have closure, knowing that they don’t have to no longer worry about her or her condition,” he added.
