Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War has finally ended, but people are still waiting for Ichigo Kurosaki’s next adventure, so is the Hell Arc finally happening? After years of battles, Bankai reveals and the fight against Yhwach, Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War has reached its conclusion. Episode 50, the final episode of The Calamity, aired yesterday, 26 October, bringing this chapter of the anime to an end. So, when is the Hell Arc coming? Credit: Hulu The idea has been around since 2021, when creator Tite Kubo released a special one-shot manga chapter called No Breaths from Hell to celebrate Bleach’s 20th anniversary. It introduced a new threat that could change everything we know about the series. The one-shot takes place 12 years after the Thousand-Year Blood War. Ichigo Kurosaki is living a peaceful life with Orihime, and the couple have a son named Kazui, who has inherited his father’s spiritual abilities. Meanwhile, the Soul Society prepares for a ceremony called Konso Reisai, held 12 years after a captain dies in battle. However, things take a dark turn when Szayelaporro Granz, an Arrancar previously associated with Aizen, appears and reveals a shocking truth about Hell. Apparently, deceased Soul Reaper captains are sent to Hell because their immense spiritual power prevents them from being absorbed back into the Soul Society. That means some seriously powerful characters who died during the series could still have a part to play. Even worse, the balance between the different worlds has been disrupted, and Hell’s gates can now be forced open from the other side. Then there’s Kazui, whose mysterious behaviour hints at a possible connection to Hell. Basically, Kubo introduced loads of new questions without giving fans the answers. It’s easy to see why everyone wants more. Has Tite Kubo said anything about the Hell Arc? Credit: Hulu Actually, Kubo has responded to questions about continuing the story, although he hasn’t given fans a release date. In August 2022, he reportedly gave a response when asked about the possibility of continuing the Hell storyline. He said, “I’m not good at drawing when I’m told to draw, so I’ll think about it when I stop being told to draw.” It’s a very Kubo response. Obviously, his comment doesn’t mean the Hell Arc is definitely happening, but it doesn’t rule out a return either. For now, there’s still no confirmed date for the manga to continue. Could the TYBW finale be teasing the Hell Arc? Well, the timing certainly makes you wonder. The final episode of Thousand-Year Blood War brings the anime’s adaptation of the original manga’s final arc to a close, while the story’s ending introduces the next generation through Ichigo and Orihime’s son, Kazui. His unusual spiritual abilities already make him an interesting character. In the manga’s ending, Kazui is involved in the disappearance of the last remnant of Yhwach’s power, leaving fans wondering just how much he can actually do. The 2021 one-shot gives them another reason to pay attention to him, as it hints at a connection between Kazui and Hell. So, is the Hell Arc anime happening? Credit: Hulu As of the time of writing, there is no confirmed release date or official announcement for a Hell Arc anime. One possibility is that Kubo could continue the manga first. That would give the story time to develop before it receives an adaptation. After all, the original manga ended its serialisation in 2016, and the 2021 one-shot remains the main glimpse of what a Hell storyline could look like. But until Kubo or the official Bleach team announces a continuation, nobody knows when the Hell Arc will arrive. For now, we will just have to wait and see whether Ichigo’s story really has another chapter left. For all the latest film and TV updates and hot takes, like our Facebook page.
