Nobody Wants This has loads of relationship drama, awkward family moments and people trying to work out what they actually want from life, but one thing that might surprise you is the difference between the actors’ real ages and the ages their characters are supposed to be.

Kristen Bell and Adam Brody play Joanne and Noah, a couple navigating love, religion and the question of whether they can build a future together. Meanwhile, Joanne’s younger sister Morgan and Noah’s older brother Sasha have their own complicated relationship, and Esther is starting over after separating from Sasha.

So, how old is the Nobody Wants This cast compared to their characters ages? 

Kristen Bell as Joanne

Kristen Bell: 46

Joanne: 38

Kristen Bell is 46, which makes her around eight years older than Joanne.

Bell has previously explained that she liked the show because its central romance felt more grown-up than the usual rom-com. Speaking to PEOPLE, she said, “I liked it so much because it felt like a very modern take on romance, and the characters are not 22, they’re, like, 38.”

Adam Brody as Noah Roklov

Adam Brody: 46

Noah: Around 38

Adam Brody is also almost eight years older than his character Noah, who is 38. Like Joanne, Noah is generally understood to be in his late 30s. 

Justine Lupe as Morgan

Justine Lupe: 37

Morgan: Around 31-33 (exact age unconfirmed)

Justine Lupe is 37, and she plays Morgan, Joanne’s younger sister and podcast co-host. Unlike Joanne, Morgan is still trying to work out what she wants her future to look like. 

Morgan is younger than Joanne and assumed to be in her early 30s. However, the show hasn’t confirmed her exact age or the number of years between the sisters.

Timothy Simons as Sasha Roklov

Timothy Simons: 48

Sasha: 42-44 (exact age unconfirmed)

At 48, Timothy Simons is one of the older members of the main cast. He plays Sasha, Noah’s older brother, who is trying to figure out life after his marriage to Esther begins to fall apart.

Since Noah is around 38, it makes sense that Sasha would be in his early 40s. 

Jackie Tohn as Esther Roklov

Jackie Tohn: 46

Esther: 38

Jackie Tohn is 46, making her eight years older than the age Esther lists on her dating profile. In season 3, Esther is separated from Sasha and starts exploring the dating scene again. Her profile says she’s 38, but whether that’s actually her age is another question. She could be telling the truth, or she might be shaving a few years off. Either way, she is probably somewhere in her late 30s to early 40s.
