Nobody Wants This season 3 ends with a major moment for Joanne and Noah. After spending the season working towards their future together, the couple finally get married. But are they actually married, or was their beach wedding only a religious ceremony? The Netflix comedy, starring Kristen Bell as Joanne and Adam Brody as Noah, ends with them arriving on a Malibu beach as fiancés. But they leave as spouses after Noah makes a surprise decision that changes everything. The finale sees Joanne and Noah travel to Malibu for what was supposed to be the final step in Joanne’s conversion to Judaism. After she completes her mikvah, Noah asks Rabbi Eden to marry them on the beach. Eden agrees, and they quickly gather what they need for the ceremony. They get wine, a ketubah, a Jewish marriage contract, and even find a stranger walking their dog to act as a witness. And just like that, Joanne and Noah are married. Erin Foster, the show’s creator and executive producer, confirmed the outcome, saying, “They’re married. I’m so happy!” Co-showrunner and executive producer Jenni Konner also explained the significance of the ceremony to Tudum, saying, “They’re married in the eyes of God,” before adding, “but not in the eyes of anyone else yet.” So, while the finale confirms their marriage within the story, the showrunners have not clearly confirmed whether the ceremony also makes them legally married. Why did the show end with a secret wedding? Credit: Netflix The beach wedding is a big moment for Joanne and Noah because their relationship has faced plenty of challenges, especially over their different religious backgrounds. Joanne’s decision to convert to Judaism has been an important part of their journey. But rather than making their wedding a huge family event, Noah chooses a more personal moment for the two of them. Speaking to Swooon, Kristen Bell praised the way the season builds towards the ceremony. She said, “I love that they built the whole season up to [seem like] they’re just talking about the wedding, and then in the last 10 minutes, they give the audience everything they wanted.” She added, “Anticipation is the reason you watch a show. It’s not necessarily to see the climax because once you see it, it’s over. So I loved the structure of that writing.” Justine Lupe, who plays Morgan, also described the ending as a special moment, saying, “It’s such a beautiful ending to the season, and it’s elegant, and it’s romantic.” Although the wedding gives the couple a happy ending, keeping it a secret from their families could create plenty of drama if the show returns. Adam Brody even joked about how the story could continue, saying, “Cut to season 4: I’m like, ‘Don’t tell anyone [we eloped.]’” For all the latest film and TV updates and hot takes, like our Facebook page.
