Silo spinoff rumour gets new evidence after author says it’s ‘probably not true’

An Apple TV insider has claimed that Silo may be getting a spinoff, and while the author of the books has suggested it’s “probably not true”, the scooper has responded with evidence that it could be taking place. 

After wrapping up its third chapter last Friday, we were treated to a surprise sneak peek for Silo’s fourth and final season, confirming that it will be dropping on July 9 2027.

Although there’s no confirmed spinoff at the time of writing, Apple TV reporter Sigmund Judge took to social media yesterday to write, “Exclusive: Silo’s fourth and final season will be succeeded by an expansion/spinoff at Apple TV.

“I am told that the upcoming project – beginning pre-production later this year – will tie into Hugh Howey’s highly anticipated Silo 40 book trilogy, expected to publish next summer.”

Right now, Howey’s Silo book series consists of three core novels – Wool, Shift, Dust – as well as three short stories. But the author confirmed in 2021 that he’s working on a new book series about Silo 40, which is still in development. 

So, it would make sense for Apple TV to want to adapt this into a TV spinoff, with Judge’s announcement sparking plenty of excitement. 

However, Howey himself responded to the post on Threads to shut down the rumour. “Yo, this is news to me. So probably not true,” he wrote, alongside a laughing emoji. 

End of story? Maybe not, as Judge has since responded to Howey’s reply, implying that the creators might want to keep the project a secret for now. “I appreciate you wanting to keep a surprise. Love everything you do,” the reporter wrote. 

And that’s not all, as Judge also shared a follow-up post with evidence. “A little further background on this story in reply to a denial (which is understandable),” he said. 

“I can also reveal that some of the main sets used in the series have remained since season four wrapped in March, and that hires for the upcoming project have begun.”

This is particularly curious given Silo season four is also its last. If the sets really are still there, it begs the question of why they’re being kept up if there’s nothing else to film. 

Judge also confirmed he’d been on the set. After sharing a photo of the airlock, lighting operator Daf Cook asked, “That’s some of my best party lighting going on there! How did you get that photo?”

“A set visit,” Judge replied, to which Cook said, “You timed it well! They were for special occasions!”

Of course, nothing is confirmed right now. But if a Silo spinoff were to go ahead, the fans will definitely be tuning in. 

“Good to hear! Silo is my favorite show,” wrote one, while another said, “Yay! They could make so many spinoffs of Silo. I’d watch one about what happened to each Silo.”
