It’s not even been a week since Spider-Man: Brand New Day came out, and people (read: me) have already watched it multiple times. After my latest rewatch, I’ve found three major clues that prove MJ remembers Peter Parker by the end of the film. Spider-Man: Brand New Day picks up four years after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Doctor Strange’s spell made the whole world forget who Peter Parker is, including his best mate Ned and the love of his life, MJ. Peter spends his lonely days fighting crime across New York City until a new threat arrives: Sadie Sink’s Jean Grey. During the scene where Jean possesses MJ, she mocks Peter by saying there are no thoughts of him in her head. But there are actually three major clues that suggest MJ remembers Peter Parker by the end of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. 1. She’s crying while trapped in the bubble Credit: Sony Pictures When Jean Grey traps everyone inside the psychic bubble, we see MJ crying. No one else is. Of course, that doesn’t prove she remembers Peter, but it does kind of hint that she’s feeling something she can’t explain. Maybe those emotions she once had for Peter are starting to come back, even if she doesn’t fully understand why. 2. She sits on the school rooftop holding her broken Black Dahlia necklace Credit: Sony Pictures Now, if you remember, that’s the last place Peter, MJ and Ned were all together before Doctor Strange’s spell. It’s where Ned and MJ said goodbye to Peter forever. In the final scene, MJ is sitting on that same rooftop holding the broken necklace, smiling with tears in her eyes. That’s a pretty huge hint that Jean Grey may have restored her memories. Obviously, nothing is supposed to break Doctor Strange’s spell. But Jean’s powers can, canonically, restore repressed or erased memories. Since Peter literally saved her life, it’s possible she restored MJ’s memories as a way of thanking him. 3. Peter buys flowers for MJ Credit: Sony Pictures We know Peter regularly buys flowers for Aunt May’s grave. But in the final scene, we see him leaving the cemetery before stopping to buy another bunch of flowers. Surely they’re not for May again. So… who are they for? MJ seems like the obvious answer. Peter would definitely remember how much she loved the flowers he brought to her housewarming party. And after telling May he wouldn’t be doing this alone anymore, buying MJ flowers could be his way of trying to reconnect with her and start over. Of course, none of this is 100 per cent confirmed, and it could all just be wishful thinking. But after everything Peter has been through, I want to believe he finally gets a happy ending. So yes, I’m convinced MJ remembers Peter by the end of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. For all the latest film and TV updates and hot takes, like our Facebook page.
