The timing is especially interesting because there have also been recent rumours about Jack and his wife, Margaret Qualley, though neither of them has publicly confirmed any split. Jack, meanwhile, has become one of Taylor’s closest creative collaborators, producing and co-writing across multiple albums. Jack and Lena dated for five years between 2012 and 2018 before eventually calling it quits. They’ve both moved on since then; Lena married musician Luis Felber, while Jack married actress Margaret Qualley. Their relationship has been back in the spotlight this year thanks to Lena’s memoir, Famesick, where she shared a much more candid account of how everything fell apart. They quickly became one of the biggest indie celebrity couples, regularly appearing together on red carpets and supporting each other’s work. When they announced their split in January 2018, reports suggested the breakup had been amicable, with sources saying they’d simply grown in different directions. But in Famesick, Lena revealed there was much more happening behind the scenes. She admitted that shortly before the relationship ended, she cheated on Jack with a friend she’d known since middle school. She also wrote openly about the physical and emotional toll of recovering from a hysterectomy, explaining how chronic pain and dependence on prescription medication affected both her life and their relationship. Describing that period, Lena said she felt like a “ghost” inside her own home as Jack and the singer spent more and more time working together in the studio. Eventually, after Jack returned home from touring, Lena realised their relationship had reached its end. She recalled feeling that they needed to break up, writing that they both cried together and told each other they had been one another’s first great love.
