At long last, Kane Parsons’ Backrooms has finally landed in cinemas, and while it doesn’t have a post-credits scene in the traditional sense, there’s still a reason to stay until the very end – especially if you’re a fan of his YouTube shorts. Backrooms is undoubtedly one of the best horror sci-fi films in recent years, combining excellent cinematography, casting, and scriptwriting, all helmed by the 20-year-old who first created this creepy universe when he was a teen. You see, the Backrooms started as a viral creepypasta on forums like 4Chan, describing a supposedly endless maze of yellowed office rooms entered by “noclipping” out of reality. Kane took this concept and created an entirely new mythology with his eerie found-footage style shorts, which he made using Blender and began uploading in January 2022 under the YouTube name Kane Pixels. In his world, the Backrooms are discovered by a megacorporation called ASync, who build an interdimensional portal called the “Threshold” using a Low Proximity Magnetic Distortion system. It’s all very smart (and intensely creepy), and it didn’t take long for the shorts to go viral, racking up millions of views. A few years later, A24 ordered a feature length adaptation of his story, and now the film has made its way to theatres. The Backrooms end-credits mention Ivan Beck Sure, you won’t find any extra scenes teasing the next potential movie, but there is a huge Easter egg: a mention of Ivan Beck. Yeah the Backrooms movie is phenomenal. Pure unadulterated fan service. 8.5/10 My only big critique is I think the video camera scenes could’ve been way longer. They kinda just fly by. I haven’t seen anyone else mention that Ivan Beck is thanked in the credits lmao pic.twitter.com/Vb6wPyTyhb — ✟ CARLOS MUERTE ✟ 🍉 (@xCarlosMuertex) May 29, 2026 As one Redditor noted, “If you stay through to the end of the credits, under the ‘Special Thanks’ segment ‘Ivan Beck’ is among the names near the middle. Pretty cool Easter Egg Kane Parsons!” It’s a true blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment, meaning barely anyone else is talking about it online. But the inclusion of this character’s name is significant. For those unfamiliar with the wider Backrooms lore, Ivan Beck is arguably one of the most important figures in the entire story. He serves as the vice director of the Async Research Institute, the shadowy company responsible for discovering and experimenting with the Backrooms – also known as “The Complex”. As is revealed in the webseries, Ivan held a press conference in April 1988, where he described the intention of Project KV31 – a program that he believes could be a solution to all current and future storage and residential needs. Under his leadership, ASync develops the Threshold and begins exploring the mysterious dimension beyond it, often with disastrous consequences. While many of the horrors seen throughout the series can be traced back to accidents and unknown forces within the Backrooms, Ivan’s relentless pursuit of scientific progress is what sets much of the narrative in motion. This lines up with what Kane himself told Film Shrine about his Backrooms film and the wider story in that it takes a “hard sci-fi” approach rather than anything supernatural. Credit: A24 The end-credits Easter egg is certainly intriguing. Sure, it’s no doubt simply a nod for the fans, but it could also play into the narrative if A24 eventually orders a Backrooms sequel. If the franchise continues, there’s every chance future instalments could spend more time exploring ASync itself and the role Ivan played in opening a doorway that should have remained closed.
