Good Omens season three is finally here… except it’s not really a full season of TV. Prime Video wrapped up the story of Aziraphale and Crowley with one 90-minute long episode called “The Finale”. The production of Good Omens was affected by sexual assault allegations agains Neil Gaiman (which he denied). It all got confusing, so here’s a breakdown of how involved Neil Gaiman was with season three of Good Omens. Yes, Neil Gaiman wrote the original Good Omens book The TV show Good Omens is based on the 1990 book by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. Fantasy nerds love to theorise about which author wrote which bits. In a blog post from 2006, Neil Gaiman wrote: “At an educated guess, although neither of us ever counted, Terry probably wrote around 60,000 ‘raw’ and I wrote 45,000 “raw” words of Good Omens, with, on the whole, Terry taking more of the plot with Adam and the Them in, and me doing more of the stuff that was slightly more tangential to the story, except that broke down pretty quickly and when we got towards the end, we swapped characters so that we’d both written everyone by the time it was done.” He also wrote scripts for the Good Omens TV show Crowley and Aziraphale back in season one(Image via Prime Video) Although there were rumours about a Good Omen film for years, nothing materialised for decades. Terry Pratchett sadly died in 2015. Neil Gaiman said Terry Pratchett wanted him to continue with the project. The first season aired in 2017. Neil Gaiman wrote scripts for all six episodes, and was an executive producer. The first season of Good Omens used up most of the story from the original book. The second and third seasons were based on ideas Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett had for sequel books (but never wrote up). Neil Gaiman was also an executive producer for season two, and he co-write the scripts with John Finnemore. Season two ended on quite the cliffhange (Image via Prime Video) Several women have accused Neil Gaiman of sexual assault Five women accused Neil Gaiman of sexual assault in summer 2024, and spoke out on the Tortoise Media podcast Master: The Allegations Against Neil Gaiman. A January 2025 Vulture article included allegations from four more women. Neil Gaiman has denied these allegations. In January 2025, he wrote: “I’m far from a perfect person, but I have never engaged in non-consensual sexual activity with anyone. Ever.” He continued: “Some of the horrible stories now being told simply never happened, while others have been so distorted from what actually took place that they bear no relationship to reality. I am prepared to take responsibility for any missteps I made.” Neil Gaiman stepped back from the production of season three The Ineffable Husbands in season three(Image via Prime Video) Prime Video reportedly paused production on Good Omens season three in September 2024. In October 2024, Prime Video announced season three would happen, but it would just be cut back to just one 90-minute episode. According to Variety, Neil Gaiman was involved with writing season three, but he stopped being part of the production. Neil Gaiman is not credited as an executive producer for season three. His production company Blank Corporation wasn’t involved. For all the latest film and TV updates and hot takes, like our Facebook page.
