I’m sure nobody missed Andy’s annoying boyfriend Nate in The Devil Wears Prada 2. This character doesn’t appear in the sequel film. If you’re nosy about what became of him, here’s what happens to him in the book series beyond the events of the first film. Nope, Nate doesn’t appear in The Devil Wears Prada 2 Adrian Grenier is pretty much the only lead actor from the cast of The Devil Wears Prada to not return for the sequel. He doesn’t sound too happy about this, either. Adrian Grenier told Page Six he would “of course” have loved to be in the sequel, but he wasn’t asked. Awks. He said: ‘We’re all fans of the movie, whether or not we’re in it. Obviously, it was a disappointment that I didn’t get the call to be in the sequel, but I also understand there’s some backlash with Nate, the character, so that might have something to do with it. But I think that just leaves room for a spinoff.” Please, no. You might not like his ending in the book series Do they have a single thing in common? I don’t think so(Image via Disney+) So, The Devil Wears Prada is based on books by Lauren Weisberger (who was, ahem, creatively inspired after working as Anna Wintour’s assistant). In the novel, Andy’s whiny boyfriend is called Alex instead of Nate. Just like in the film, Alex get more and more fed up with Andy working such long hours and ignoring all other responsibilities. He dumps her right before she travels with Miranda to Paris Fashion Week. Their relationship ends on a much more ambiguous note than in the book. Alex doesn’t sound enthused about getting back together with Andy. The sequel book, Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns, takes place after a long time jump. Andy meets a super wealthy guy called Max Harrison at a fundraiser hosted by Emily. He provides funds so Emily and Andy can start a wedding magazine together. Andy marries him, and they have a baby. Andy reflects fondly on her relationship with Alex several times, and runs into him twice. His life is going annoyingly well – he completed Teach for America, and is in a serious relationship with somebody called Sophie. Andy figures out Sophie is cheating on him. Andy is fuming – it’s implied her relationships with all of them are done. The book has an epilogue, that’s set a year and a half later. Andy then randomly runs into Alex again. He’s dumped Sophie. They flirt for six pages, and apologise for how they treated each other back when Andy worked for Miranda. Alex asks her out on a date. The book says: “Andy reached up on her tiptoes, thew her arms around Alex’s neck, and kissed him square on the mouth. It lasted only a couple of seconds, but it was the most natural, wonderful feeling in the world, and when she pulled away again, they grinned at each other.” The book ends with them kissing again.
