An injury lawyer just ranked Final Destination deaths by how likely they are to happen in real life

The iconic sunbed scene is actually not that far fetched

There is barely any franchise more iconic and jaw dropping in horror than Final Destination, whose films have traumatised sleepovers since they first started at the turn of the millennium. For a six film franchise, the series has done so well in constantly being inventive with wild ways to kill off its characters and only has one shit movie in the bunch. Yes, The Final Destination, I’m looking at you. The films gave us the horrible thought of whenever we’ve had a close encounter with dying, Death tracks us down and kills us off in horrible, accidental and initially mundane ways. With the sixth film adding a load more things to be scared of now Bloodlines has hit cinemas, an injury lawyer expert gave his verdict on the Final Destination deaths most likely to happen to us in real life.

Prepare to be traumatised.

The lawn mower

One new one from Bloodlines that the sixth film has been teasing is a backyard death with a lawn mower. Just what we need in barbecue season! Data from over 300,000 ER visits in the United States revealed 229 reported lawnmower accidents. I always get so worried when mowing the lawn and think I’m gonna go over the wire and electrocute myself, so.

Ladders

There’s only been one ladder death in Final Destination films, but this is actually the most likely to happen with 4,162 recorded incidents.

Fences

The runner up is the humble fence, which has had 2,121 incidents reported. Never forget the cocky guy in The Final Destination who got minced. Worst film ever, but that did knock me sick to be fair.

Gym weights

Another classic from Final Destination 2 is the gym weights death, which is the third most likely to happen with 930 accidents reported.

Nail guns

The trauma of that DIY shop in Final 3 is still harrowing me to this day, and it’s got 160 reported incidents. The noise it makes in that film still traumatises me.

Sunbeds

Not only are they terrible for you anyway, but the most iconic death in the entire franchise has 300,000 reported hospital visits because of it. Perhaps not in quite as gory a fashion as Final Destination 3 showed.

Get on any rollercoaster you want, however – because only three hospital recordings were reported from injuries sustained on rides.

The real life chance of Final Destination deaths happening were analysed by Senior Trial Attorney Farid Yaghoubtil from his law firm analysing data in 2022. Yaghoubtil explained “When looking for film franchises which highlight the wacky and strange ways people can get injured, you don’t need to look any further than Final Destination. Delving into the deaths across the entirety of the franchise though, even I was surprised at just how creative and imaginative the teams working on the films had been.

“The purpose of the research was to establish how, even though a lot of the casualties in the films are very strange, being injured is something that can happen at any time, and can also happen in extremely unusual circumstances. Looking at the NEISS data, this is certainly true – our hope is that the research will remind people to take care of themselves in every situation.”
