The full 28 Years Later trailer is FINALLY here, so here are all the gory details you missed

The question on everyone’s mind: Is Cillian Murphy in the 28 Years Later trailer?

Today, Sony uploaded the first full trailer for 28 Years Later, a continuation of the classic zombie film 28 Days Later and its sequel, 28 Weeks Later.

Back in January, 28 Years Later was teased with a short trailer that broke the internet. People thought they spotted Cillian Murphy reprising his role as Jim, but that was later disproven when the real man behind the makeup and mask came forward. While the trailer doesn’t have a Cillian Murphy tease, people are thrilled by the vibe and eagerly awaiting its release on June 20. Watch the trailer below!

The official description of 28 Years Later sounds lit

Alongside the trailer, an official description was released, and it sounds just as, if not more, action-packed than both 28 Days Later and its sequel 28 Weeks Later.

“It’s been almost three decades since the rage virus escaped a biological weapons laboratory, and now, still in a ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to exist amidst the infected. One such group of survivors lives on a small island connected to the mainland by a single, heavily-defended causeway,” it read.

“When one of the group leaves the island on a mission into the dark heart of the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders, and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors as well.”

The infected are mutating?

28 Years Later

To keep the film fresh and original, its creator, Danny Boyle, has reworked the infected. Some years after the virus first spread across the UK, the infected and some regular humans mutate into something else entirely. We don’t know exactly what the infected are mutating into, but by the looks of the trailer, they are more aggressive, faster, and stronger.

God, the zombie apocalypse sounds exhausting.

Angus Neill pops up again

Towards the end of the trailer, we get a better look at the zombie who was featured in the earlier teaser amongst a field of yellow flowers. People initially thought it was Cillian Murphy’s character Jim, but it soon came out that it was actually model Angus Neill.

“Danny told me he’d always had me in mind for the role. So we met up, hit it off, and I agreed to take part,” Angus told The Guardian earlier this year. “On set, he has an extraordinary ability to hypnotise you, and working with him on the film was a very, very intense experience.”

In the new trailer, Angus’ zombie character can be seen chasing humans through the field and it’s truly chilling.

And the creepy Boots poem is back

The creepy backing track in the new trailer brings back the sinister poem used in the initial teaser, you know, the one that’s a legit torture technique. Written by Rudyard Kipling and read by Taylor Holmes in 1915, Boots is used by the Navy Seals to prep for Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape (SERE) training.

A reference to a long-forgotten restaurant chain

Happy Eater

In a blink and you’ll miss it moment, presumably once the characters get to the mainland, you can clearly see the abandoned building of Happy Eater, a restaurant chain from 1973 that ceased all operations in 1997. It serves as a timestamp for the series, illustrating how the zombie apocalypse kicked off in the early 2000s.

Introductions to new characters

Aaron

Though we defo won’t be seeing Cillian Murphy in the upcoming 28 Years Later, the cast is still stacked beyond belief with Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer, Ralph Fiennes, Erin Kellyman, and Jack O’Connell all lending their talents to the project. In the new trailer, we get a better look at Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s character and a first look at Jodie Comer and Ralph Fiennes.
