The juiciest film details revealed at CinemaCon, from M3GAN 2.0 to Wicked: For Good

More excited than ever but I don’t want to wait!

This week, thousands of people attended CinemaCon 2025, where they were treated to first looks at some of the biggest films set to come out this year. Some of the world’s biggest studios attended Cinema United’s event, which was previously called the National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO), including Universal Pictures, Sony Pictures, Lionsgate, Warner Bros, Disney, Paramount, and Amazon MGM.

This article would go one for thousands of pages if I included all of the announcements, but here are the ones you should be most excited about.

1. M3GAN 2.0 sounds even better than the first

According to Discussing Film who attended CinemaCon, M3GAN actress Violet McGraw and a troupe of M3GAN lookalikes introduced the segment by dancing to Britney Spears’ Oops I Did It Again – iconic! The trailer, which has since been released on YouTube, showed a slightly different direction for the sequel.

Unlike the first film, which was very much based in horror, M3GAN 2.0 takes a wackier approach as the killer robot fights another android called Amelia, played by Ivanna Sakhno. In the genius words of the film itself, it’s “this b***h” vs. “that b***h.”

M3GAN 2.0 is set to hit cinemas on June 27.

2. We got a sneak peek at a highly anticipated song in Wicked: For Good

Wicked: For Good

Also at the Universal Pictures panel, people were lucky enough to see a snippets from upcoming Wicked songs No Good Deed – arguably the best tune in the musical – and For Good, a devastating song about Glinda and Elphaba’s relationship. Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, and director Jon M. Chu were all in attendance and we even got a brief introduction to Dorothy and her yellow brick road travelling companions.

Wicked: For Good is set for a November 21 release, and I’m simply not ready.

3. 28 Years Later and 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple got updates

When a teaser for 28 Years Later was released earlier this year, the world went absolutely crazy for it as some questioned whether Cillian Murphy would be returning as Jim.

During Sony’s panel on Tuesday, attendees were shown a new trailer for 28 Years Later that some said was very familiar to the teaser. It included a better look at the setting, said to be a small English town surrounded by a large barrier and bridge to the mainland, and we now gather that a central plot will be Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s son coming of age and being forced to defend the rural settlement from the infected.

28 Years Later will be released on June 20, but we also got some more information about the sequel’s sequel, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple.

Sadly there was no trailer or teaser but people were shown two still images from the film. The first was survivors running down a rural hill, similar to leaked set pictures, and the second showcased Ralph Fiennes’s “crazy” villain character. This film will hit cinemas on January 16, 2026.

4. I Know What You Did Last Summer is back

I Know What You Did Last Summer

I Know What You Did Last Summer is perhaps one of the great horror flicks of all time, and now the legacy sequel is set for a July 18 drop. Freddie Prinze Jr attended the panel with some gory details like “Isn’t the first time there’s been violence”, a call back to the 1997 classic.

The trailer itself was as gory as you might expect, with one boyfriend being killed by a hook-handed killer and his friends subsequently questioning whether what they did during the summer had anything to do with it. Apparently, people went absolutely bonkers when Jennifer Love Hewitt appeared as her character from the first film.

5. Disney’s showcase was STACKED

Final Destination: Bloodlines

Though Snow White’s live-action debut utterly bombed, and for good reasons, Disney is powering on ahead with some pretty exciting releases. New trailers were shown for Lilo & Stitch, Pixar’s Elio, Predator: Badlands, Zootopia 2, and Tron: Ares, but I know there’s only one film you really want to hear about.

The long-awaited sequel to Freaky Friday, Freaker Friday, was showcased during Disney’s panel, and it honestly sounds lit. The film follows Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan’s returning characters, Tess and Ann, as they are once again body-swapped. This time, Anna and Tess are body-swapped with Anna’s daughter and stepdaughter, and chaos ensues.

On the Marvel front, people watched new footage from the upcoming Thunderbolts film, which showed a brutal fight scene between the team and masked assailants. The highly anticipated The Fantastic Four: The First Steps also received an update, with footage shown of Susan Storm’s pregnancy announcement and a gender-bent Silver Surfer played by Jennifer Garner.

6. We got more horror with Final Destination: Bloodlines

Final Destination: Bloodlines

The Final Destination franchise is back on May 16, and people who attended the Warner Bros panel were shown a sneak peek at the chaos set to come. The scene showed two brothers in a hospital weighing their options between killing someone and trying to cheat death. They ultimately decided to exploit one brother’s peanut allergy, but death had other plans. The subsequent scene showed piercings ripped from their bodies, heavy equipment crushing bone, and one final gory death that is guaranteed to shock.

6. Avatar: Fire & Ash deserves its own section

Avatar: Fire & Ash

People who attended CinemaCon also saw glimpses of James Cameron’s upcoming Avatar instalment, Avatar: Fire & Ash. The footage has since been described as some of the most beautiful scenes in cinematic history.

People were introduced to the antagonists of the film, the Ash people, who have pushed the Water Tribe out of their home, and there was also trouble in paradise as main character Jake calls out his wife’s bubbling rage. Are we boiling up to Neytiri being a villain?

Don’t worry, you don’t have to wait another decade for Avatar: Fire & Ash because it’s set for a premiere on December 19.

6. Never-before-seen dinos were shown in Jurassic World Rebirth

Jurassic World Rebirth

I will never get tired of Jurassic Park films, and now, with the addition of Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey, I am very much locked in.

During the Universal Pictures panel, people were shown a trailer for the upcoming film that is slated for a July 2 release. In the few short clips, people saw a T-Rex chase on a whitewater raft, a Quetzalcoatlus attacking in a mysterious temple, and a Mosasaurus attacking in the middle of the ocean!

To keep things fresh and original, Jurassic World Rebirth will also showcase completely original dinosaurs that were described as mutants and monsters.
