After years of feud rumours, Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick are once again contractually obligated to spend time together as they promote their new film Another Simple Favour. The director Paul Feig has denied they’re locked in some kind of eight-year feud. But the actors’ interactions sort of suggest something else. Here’s a complete and comprehensive timeline of all Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick’s drama over the years.

Please note: Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick have never explicitly confirmed they hate each other’s guts. There is a chance it’s all one very elaborate joke to promote their films. You’ll have to read through all their savage jabs at each other over the years, and make up your own mind about the extent of their loathing.

Apparently the feud started because Anna Kendrick dared utter a joke about Taylor Swift

Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick started filming the original A Simple Favour film in August 2017. Apparently the two just didn’t get on. In Touch reported at the time that the feud started because Anna Kendrick made a snarky comment about Taylor Swift, and Blake Lively was deeply offended on her behalf.

We don’t know for certain if Anna Kendrick did make a joke like this on set. But she did compare herself to Taylor Swift in a 2016 Net-A-Porter interview. Anna said: “I’d be terrible at being like Taylor Swift, the perfect Miss America version of interacting with fans and making sure they have a good experience.”

A crew member from A Simple Favour dished about the feud on The Celebrity Memoir Book Club podcast. The cast member said: “They hated each other. The studio even had to have a talk with them about making it look like they liked each other on press tours because it was starting to get obvious.

“Anna in particular was really competitive with Blake and was constantly asking to make sure she got more promotion than Blake and even made us photoshop her cleavage in the Simple Favor poster to be as big (or bigger) than Blake’s.”

In one interview with MTV from May 2018, Anna and Blake seem to jab at each other at least once per minute.

Anna explained how she and Blake met. She said: “I worked with her husband Ryan several years ago, so I met Blake a few times through Ryan on that film. And I thought she seemed nice. And little did I know!” Blake reaches towards Anna, who snaps, “Don’t touch me.”

An alternate theory, of course, is that Anna Kendrick is just joking. But Blake Lively doesn’t seem to find it very funny.

The interviewer asked about how they got on during production of the film. Blake made the very vague comment, “I’ve had people who I don’t necessarily… we’re not best buddies at all moments, but we do well together on screen.”

While Anna is talking about Harry Potter, Blake says to the side, “She’s so stupid.” Er, okay.

Then to top if all off, Blake Lively laments she does not have the right voice to play a Disney princess. Anna whines, “Oh, muffin, it’s so hard being you!”

In this interview with Kjersti Flaa, Blake Lively opens up about how she used to judge her mother for being too confident. Anna corrects her grammar, and says, “You’re such a terrible daughter!”

When asked about blocking people on Instagram, Anna says, ‘There’s a couple of people that I’ve muted.” She then whispers loudly to the side, “Blake Lively”.

In 2022, it was announced that Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick were making a sequel to A Simple Favour. They’re promoting the new movie right now, and not going to lie, it seems like they annoy each other as much as ever.

At the premier for Another Simple Favour on 7th March 2025, a Variety reporter asked Anna, “How do you feel that the movie is being impacted by everything going on around… in the world?” It seems like the journalist was referencing Blake Lively’s ongoing legal battle with Justin Baldoni about It Ends With Us. Anna laughed, and replied, “Why? What happened? I did Ayahuasca and the last year of my life has just gone, but I’ve heard the movie is amazing!” Iconic behaviour.
