This is not a drill! 28 Days Later is finally coming to streaming after rights issue settled

We’ve waited years for this very moment

28 Days Later is finally available for purchase on all the major sites after it was snubbed from streaming platforms for years over a rights issue.

Last week, the trailer for 28 Years Later piqued our interest due to the combination of the viral Cillian Murphy meme and the terrifying poem still going in circles in our heads. But with all this talk about the upcoming film, which is led by Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Jodie Comer, most of us want to dive head first into the project that started the franchise, 28 Days Later.

The film that launched Cillian Murphy’s career is widely regarded as one of the best zombie pictures of all time, and yet, it’s notably absent on streaming platforms despite the less successful 28 Weeks Later being available on Disney+.

Officially, 28 Days Later has not been seen on any streaming platform since 2020. It also wasn’t available for purchase on any of the usual platforms such as Prime Video and YouTube. Why? Rights issues, of course.

Though you could have scrounged a DVD copy of 28 Days Later, who has a DVD player in 2024?

How to watch 28 Days Later on streaming

Back in 2019, Disney brought 20th Century Fox and all its production companies such as Searchlight Pictures that produced 28 Days Later in 2002. After four years in the void, producer Andrew MacDonald purchased the rights to 28 Days Later from Searchlight and promptly sold them to Sony, the company putting out 2025’s 28 Years Later.

As of December 18, 28 Days Later is available for purchase on all major platforms. On Prime Video it’s currently listed as £3.49 to rent and £9.99 to buy, but it’s also on iTunes, Microsoft Store and other similar hosting platforms.

Unfortunately, 28 Days Later is yet to appear free on the usual sites such as Netflix, but all hope is not lost. With 28 Years Later coming out next year, I theorise it’s only a matter of time before they drum up interest by releasing it on streaming.

As per Digital Spy, Sony tends to stream its movies on Netflix, while it’s Sky Cinema and therefor NOW TV in the UK. When the time comes, Netflix and Sky are the most likely platforms.
