Okay, witches: Here’s the actual reason part two is titled Wicked: For Good

Rogue choice but I’m here for it

Last night, we got the joyous official announcement of when Wicked part two would be hitting cinemas in 2025. I felt like singing the “good news” bit from No One Mourns the Wicked so loud when I saw Ariana Grande’s Instagram post announcing the date that Wicked part two would be hitting cinemas. But there was a shock in store: The film would not just be titled as expected Wicked part two, it’s actually got the title Wicked: For Good. Anybody who knows the musical will know full well why they called it that, but here’s an explainer on why Wicked part two is called For Good.

Basically, in act two of the Wicked musical the big final song of the show is called For Good. It is basically the Defying Gravity of part two, if that makes sense. It’s the final song and reunion between Elphaba and Glinda, and because of the many and chaotic events of what happens in act two the former best friends have barely had any time to spend together. The song is a really wholesome reflection on their journey and relationship throughout the entire show. And now, the entire film.

As a big fan of both, I’m not sure how I fully feel about the name I think it reads a bit messy – but fair play.

For Good is absolutely one of the most anticipated songs still to come in the sequel – but I’ve always been a No Good Deed man myself. Admittedly, Wicked: No Good Deed would be quite a ridiculous name for the film to run with but still… a fanboy can dream.

Now what I really can’t wait for in the sequel is the promise that original songs might be around the corner. Now that is something I am absolutely gagging for.
