Who is Alisha Weir? The girl heavily rumoured to be playing Dorothy in Wicked Part Two

Though director John Chu has yet to confirm whether Dorothy will feature in next year’s Wicked Part Two, rumours of Alisha Weir playing the character have already begun to spread like wildfire across the internet.

Wicked Part One has been a certified hit with an impressive 89 per cent score on Rotten Tomatoes and calls for the film’s leads Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo to receive Oscar nominations. The film has only been out a week but viewers are already frothing at the mouth for 2025’s sequel.

In the original stage musical, Dorothy appears as a silhouette in the final moments of the show in a moment that is meant to link the musical with the original The Wizard of Oz film. There are some theories that the Wicked sequel will not only be a continuation of the established story but also a mish-mash with The Wizard of Oz plot. That means Dorothy is going to need an actress.

Refusing to confirm or deny the rumours, the director told Variety: “I won’t say whether she’s a character, necessarily, in movie two. There’s a part of me that wants everyone’s Dorothy to be the whatever Dorothy they want. And yet, there is interaction and some crossover. So I’ll leave that up to Part Two.”

But who is Alisha Weir, the young actress pegged to be slipping into some silver heels in the near future?

Alisha Weir, 15, is an Irish actress hailing from the South Dublin suburb of Knocklyon, where her passion for acting blossomed with help from her older sister’s drama class.

In the original movie, Dorothy was said to be around 12 years old, and though Alisha is slightly older than that, Judy Garland herself was 16 when she starred in the iconic role.

My second piece of evidence is a still image from the trailer that shows the Cowardly Lion, Tin Man, and Fiyero as the Scarecrow. Dorothy can be seen in her signature dress and silver pumps, and admittedly, she does have a similar build and height as Alisha.

Those rumours gathered more attention when Alisha appeared at not one, but all of the Wicked Part One premieres despite not being in the film itself. Though you could argue that she’s simply an up-and-coming actress making her face more known, the appearances coupled with John Chu’s comments seem to suggest that something Wicked is in the works.

What other projects has she starred in?

If you thought that Alisha might lack the experience or acting chops to pull off the iconic role, you’re dead wrong. Despite only being in the industry for a few years, Alisha Weir has more leading roles under her belt than actors decades older.

After a few minor roles in projects like Don’t Leave Home and Darklands, Alisha scored her big break as she starred as the titular character in 2022’s Matilda: The Musical. She was widely applauded by viewers and the film itself received a Rotten Tomatoes score of 93 per cent.

In a dramatic change of pace that literally no one saw coming, Alisha’s next project was the 2023 horror film Abigail which saw her portray a psychotic vampire ballerina. Not only did she manage to bring nuance to what could have been an incredibly cheesy role, but the image of the 15 year old tearing out a man’s throat with her teeth is now permanently branded in my brain.

Alisha does have Instagram and shamefully, she has more followers than most of us with 141k and counting. Her tiles are an array of behind-the-scenes pictures, premiere looks, and media appearances.

Posting a pic of her Wicked premiere look, she penned in the caption: “Wicked European Premiere! So unbelievably grateful for last night! This movie is EVERYTHING and more!”
