Cynthia Erivo’s secretive love life: She’s dating a huge actress she met at the Met Gala?!

I never knew they were dating

Cynthia Erivo is one of the biggest names in the world right now thanks to Wicked, but no one really knows much about her.

Many have only just discovered the British actress after playing Elphaba, but her career spans back more than a decade.

The 37-year-old started in theatre on London’s West End before moving to Broadway and then making her film debut in 2018.

Now you know a little bit about her, let’s find out about her love life. Did you know she’s dating another really famous actress?!

Cynthia Erivo is dating another huge actress

Cynthia is dating Lena Waithe, a super famous actress and film producer who was in Master of None, Westworld, and Ready Player One.

They met at the 2018 Met Gala and have “been vibing ever since,” Lena told Variety.

“The first time I met her was at the Met Gala, which is where all the cool kids go to meet each other.”

She had already seen Cynthia on stage in The Color Purple and on TV when Oprah interviewed her.

The pair instantly hit it off but have always kept their relationship very private.

They didn’t even confirm they were dating until June 2022, when they were spotted holding hands at the Alvin Ailey Spirit Gala.

Lena was seen at the Los Angeles and London Wicked premieres. However, they never post about each other on social media and are very secretive.

Before that, Cynthia dated actor Mario Martinez from 2017 to 2019 and Dean-John Wilson from 2013 to 2017.

She has opened up about her sexuality

The Wicked actress first publicly spoke about her sexuality in August 2021, when she described herself as “queer” in an interview with The Evening Standard.

A year later, she then revealed that she identifies as bisexual in an August 2022 interview with British Vogue.

During a recent appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Cynthia opened up about how she used to hide her queerness but now embraces it.

“I didn’t have the language to even know what was going on. It’s come much later to me now, and it’s wonderful to just be me,” she said.

“It’s made space creatively to let go of whatever I was hiding. Once you stop hiding something so integral to you, you can put that energy into creating more wonderful things.”
