‘Real women’ billboard in Winston-Salem is stirring up controversy

There will be a protest against the message this Sunday

A new billboard on I-40 is causing a lot of controversy in the Wake Forest community. The message on the board says, “Real men provide. Real women appreciate it.”

Anger and disappointment have erupted on campus, within the Winston-Salem area and around the country because of the misogynistic message.

Community members are protesting the sign this Sunday at 11am. Each person is encouraged to bring a bed sheet that they can decorate with their own empowering slogans.

The event, hosted by KLEUR, says, “We will be creating, together, a huge collection of ALTERNATIVE BILLBOARDS with alternative, POSITIVE slogans.”
