The 10 Commandments of Vols football

I will give my all for Tennessee today

There is nothing quite like going to Neyland on a Saturday, surrounded by a sea of 100,000 orange-clad fans. There is no doubt we have the best school spirit in the SEC, America and probably the world.

It is hard to put into words just how special game day is. For many of us, football is like a religion, Neyland is our church/synagogue/temple/mosque etc. and as with religion, there are 10 commandments to follow:

Thou shall wear as much orange and white as physically possible

Neyland looks amazing because of the sheer amount of people wearing orange. Don’t be that idiot and turn up wearing a red shirt. Red is not the same as orange.

Thou shall “Third down for…” wait, what?

You were annoying and amazing in equal measures. Did it act as a hinderance in some very serious third down opportunities? Potentially yes. Will I miss it? Of course. RIP.

Thou shall respect Pride of the Southland

There is no marching band quite like them. Be it during the game or performing the amazing Salute to the Hill, enjoy and appreciate the magic.

Thou shall watch the 1998 National Championship game at least once

Thou shall not take Smokey’s name in vain

Smokey is undeniably the best mascot ever and you must never speak ill of our beloved dog. There’s no sight quite like watching Smokey run through that checkered end zone.

Thou shall visit The Rock

Apparently it weighs 80 tons and a good amount of that comes from the sheer amount of paint on it.

Thou shall place your faith in Butch Jones

You may not always agree with his decisions, but you have to place your trust in him. Trust that he will be the man to bring us another National Championship. Speaking of…

Thou shall proclaim ‘This is our year’

No but seriously, this year is going to be our year. I know I said that last year and we didn’t win. Trust me, we’re going to win this year.

Thou shall go to Peyton Manning Pass

The Vol Walk is amazing and the atmosphere there is incomparable.

Thou shall sing Rocky Top

I don’t need to say anything about this one. This is hands down the best fight song in the world.
