Tributes to be paid to Princeton sophomore found dead in dorm

Wonshik Shin was found passed away this morning

Tributes will be paid to Wonshik Shin at a remembrance service tonight. He was found deceased in his dormitory this morning by the Department of Public Safety.

Wonshik was a member of the Class of 2019 and lived in Forbes College.

He was a board member of the Korean American Students Association and was also a part of VTone, an East Asian music group, as well as Princeton University Rock Ensemble.

The memorial service will take place at 6pm in the Forbes College living room.

In an email to the Princeton community, Dean Kathleen Deignan said: “It is tragic when we lose a member of our community and it is especially so for those students and fellow college residents who have lost a treasured friend and colleague.

“At this season of the year, loss can be especially difficult and our hearts go out to those who knew, lived and worked with Wonshik.

“Though most students have left campus for the winter break, we ask that you reach out and support one another at this difficult time. Additionally, resources and support continue to be available throughout the break at Counseling and Psychological Services, the Office of Religious Life and the residential colleges. Staff are available to meet with students who are on campus.

“On behalf of Vice President Calhoun and the staff in Campus Life and in the residential colleges, we wish to convey our deepest sympathies to all those personally impacted by this sad news and to encourage all students to utilize our support resources if needed.”

A Princeton spokesperson added in a statement: “The University has extended its condolences to his family.

“Students who would like to speak with counselors are encouraged to visit Counseling and Psychological Services on the third floor of McCosh Health Center or call (609) 258-3285 to reach a counselor. After hours and on weekends during the holiday break, students with a need for counseling should contact the Department of Public Safety at (609) 258-1000.

“Students and other members of the University community may also contact the deans in the Office of Religious Life.”
