High school seniors, this is why you should commit to Princeton

Princeton really is the best damn place of all

Princeton, along with the seven other schools that comprise the Ivy League, released admissions decisions yesterday for the Class of 2020. Admitting almost 1,900 students from an applicant pool of 29,000, the university had its lowest acceptance rate ever.

In the next couple of days, newly admitted Tigers will be flooding the 2020 Facebook groups with their introductions. So we decided to show these new Princetonians exactly why they should choose the best school in the nation.

Rankings

Nobody should make a choice for college solely based on the number given to the university by US News and World Report. However, the fact that Princeton consistently ranks at number one does mean something. It shows Princeton is one of the strongest academic universities in the country year after year. Helping contribute to the rankings is the fact that alumni give back to the University in droves, proving their loyalty to Old Nassau time and time again.

Focus on undergrads

Princeton touts its commitment to undergraduate education, and it shows. With an extremely low student-to-faculty ratio and a wealth of advising available to students, the university really centers most of its energy on their undergrads. The flip side, of course, is that there it is less focused on graduate education, but that’s four long years away.

Location, location, location

Princeton is located in central Jersey and is connected to the major northeast railway lines. It’s equidistant from Philadelphia and New York City, making it easy to get away for the weekend. However, because the area surrounding campus is relatively quiet, you don’t have to deal with all the issues inherent in attending a college in a metropolitan area.

The campus itself

The campus is really beautiful, especially in the fall. Princeton contains a wide variety of architectural styles, from the Hogwarts-esque Whitman College, to Forbes, formerly a hotel. The Street continues the architectural variety, with the clubs being very different, with styles ranging from Norman Gothic to Colonial revival. With lots of green open spaces to study or just hang out, the campus truly is incredible.

Football

We invented the sport of football. Just think, without us, you wouldn’t be able to watch the Super Bowl. You wouldn’t be able to waste every Sunday for five months watching football. I wouldn’t have been able to win my fantasy football league. I’ve been told by my editor that I have to give half the credit to Rutgers, or the Honor Committee will be after me. But it was mostly us.

Late Meal

Late meal is actually the best thing in the entire world. Students can go to Frist and buy food in between meals. The best part is that it is included in the unlimited dining plan, which most underclassmen choose. There are nuances, but late meal keeps many students, myself included, going during the year, whether it’s stocking up on Powerade or getting chicken tenders.

The Weather Machine

The university owns a weather machine which keeps the climate nice throughout the year. This means that there is a 90 percent chance that it will be 65 degrees and sunny during preview. The weather does act up sometimes if President Eisgruber forgets to pay the bill, but the machine works most of the time.

We are everywhere

Us on TV

Princeton pops up literally everywhere. From F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novels to A Cinderella Story, Princeton features prominently in pop culture. Next time you watch House watch the opening credits, and you’ll see a shot of the back of Frist, along with a shot of Princeton crew on Lake Carnegie.

And most importantly

We are not Rutgers or Harvard, thank God.

Congratulations, Princeton Class of 2020!
