Plane carrying Michigan men’s basketball team slides off runway

None of the passengers on board were injured

After attempting to take off from Willowrun Airport in high winds Wednesday afternoon, a plane carrying the Michigan men’s basketball team reportedly had to be evacuated. The pilot apparently decided to abort takeoff and braked, causing the plane to skid and slide off of the runway, according to ABC News.

ABC reported that the plane sustained heavy damage, but that no one on board was injured. Everyone was evacuated and is reportedly safe, with the team making other arrangements for their flight to Illinois to face off against the Fighting Illini tomorrow at noon.

This event comes in the wake of a severe wind advisory in and around the Ann Arbor area, which has caused power outages in several buildings across campus. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident.
