Woman gives birth in University of Iowa Hospital bathroom and leaves baby in the trash
She’s been charged with child endangerment
22-year-old Ashley Hautzenrader has reportedly been charged with child endangerment, according to an article in the Daily Mail.
Hautzenrader entered a bathroom at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics around 9:30pm on Sunday.
After giving birth to her baby in the toilet, she tried flushing it down the toilet. She then put the newborn in a pillowcase and left it in the restroom trash can.

Hautzenrader told police that she left the child in the trash because she thought it was dead. She also claimed that she was unaware of her pregnancy until she had entered the bathroom.
According to an article in KTLA, Hautzenrader was held in the Johnson County Jail until her release Tuesday morning.
The baby’s current condition is unknown.
